Gas Gauge on 'E' = 6 Gallons Left ?

Growing up in the west, with some gas stations 70+ miles apart, I generally fill my truck up when it hits 1/4 just out of lifetime habit. I was towing the family trailer back from the Oregon coast recently (about 8 mpg) and actually (read: on purpose) got down into E is for empty, yellow light, low fuel warning in the display, and 5 mile DTE. When I gassed up I was surprised that I could only cram 20 gallons in.

I checked the manual to be sure the 2010 CM did not have a smaller tank; says 26.4 all models.

Is this about how it works for everybody else? Empty = 6 Gallons left?

But it’s like that so the gas pump stays submerged. You don’t want to run it dry.

Yea, when my light comes on usually there's 8 gallons left. Solid 100 miles of range when it's empty
