1st Gen. Lunch Table - General Discussion

The ONLY" sleep "supplement you should take is the essential amino acid "l tryptophan". It promotes good mood and restful sleep. You will also have crazy dreams. It is found in turkey and is responsible for making you sleepy after thanksgiving dinner. I highly reccomend it to everyone. My mom said she had insomia or however u spell it, i gave her 1,000 mg of l tryptophan and she slept well

 

Pops would simply tell me to "get over it." I spoke with mom about it, and she reccomended the psychologist/therapist.
I tried speaking with my brothers about it as well, and each one said "Well, that sucks." It was left at that when I realized they would not help.

I have been written off before, so I'm used to it.

I no longer have many friends locally, and do not know how to initiate a "friendship" anymore. Locally, I have found that males my age just want to talk about "fucking bitches" and females my age assume that I am only talking to them because "I just wanna fuck." Both of which are not the case.

I have never been able to sleep well. I have a good mattress reccomended to me by my chiropractor. It is very comfy for me. My mind runs at a million miles an hour 24/7. It doesn't matter if I'm trying to sleep. It seems like my brain only speeds up when my head hits the pillow. Mental illness runs in the family, but is largely an unspoken thing. I have tried before to speak about it with family, and friends at earlier times in my life. Usually with the same results as of late. My friends at the time simply told me "Man, that sucks. I don't know what to tell you, but let me tell you about MY problems." I would listen, and then help them. In retrospect those same "friends" ended up never helping me when I really needed it. Such as now.

No illicit druggy wuggys. Not even alcohol during this job I'm working on. I usually try to listen to calming/relaxing music. Or simply listen to the breeze through the trees, amd the songbirds. As far as movies? I haven't even seen a TV show for about a month. I stay busy.

The "pandemic" stress regarding work may be a large factor. They have canned a few people from my department at work, and have canned the other 3rd shift fella leaving only me, but I have not gotten a call back yet... Definitely will be trying something different regarding sleep.

As far as the paint fumes thats a very good thought, but I assumed that since I was in a well ventilated area, and a slight breeze at all times during painting that I would largely be "Okay." I wore some ear plugs during the grinding parts.

I started playing fast/loose only because someone keeps moving my box of earplugs, and my box of latex gloves. When I inquire about them the answer I receive is similar to this, "I moved them somewhere over here? They were in my way."

I have lots of safety squints, but have not been able to find a respirator locally. I will browse again later on today.

All good thoughts. I have a LOT of stressor that many of which are not being discussed. I have been putting A LOT of strain on myself.
I will be calling around to see who is still having appointments. My internet here is not good enough to telecommute. It would have to be in person visits.

Where do people hang out? Its hard to meet people when you're not a "popular" guy. I'm just me, and mind my own business. I do my work, and move along.

I reach out to start conversations with people, once our conversation is over, I have found that only one person outside of family will reach back out to me to initiate conversation.

Before the forum days I was taking 50 mgs of melatonin a night. I have since weened myself down to 10 mg. As far as dreams? I've never remembered mine. When I do remember them I have absolutely no idea how to articulate just how terrifying they are to anyone. I can type out one hell of a story exactly as it happened, but that stuff? No way.

A 1,000 mg of tryptophan seems high, but I'm also not sure how much turkey has per pound of meat.

 

500-1,000mg is the standard dose. Would it have been better if i said 1 gram a day? 1,000mg=1 gram. It sounds like a lot cause of the word thousand

 

Yeah, your generation kinda sucks, no offense to you or @Pucks18, or any others on here. Is you're truck 4wd? If so check out some offroad clubs. Or maybe some local car clubs. You can usually find them on FB, which is the only reason I get on there.

I'd definitely holler at a psychiatrist. They can prescribe stuff where as a therapist can't. Sounds like you got some ADD going on too. I've had that since the 80s, and it's hard to deal with. Your mind races from one thing to the next with no direction whatsoever. So many random thoughts.

Just take it easy for a few days. Putting that much effort into the truck probably isnt helping either. Maybe just do a few hours a day or something.

Oh wait, disregard all that. "Man that sucks. Lemme tell you about my problems".

 

You can count me among your friends. I love reading your posts and seeing what you've been up to.

As far as your dad's response it's pretty typical and probably comes from a place of fear, it brings up insecurities in him he's not ready to deal with so it's easier to blow it off. My family has a lot of mental health issues too going back generations, but my siblings and I have started tackling them and it's been really cool to see what's happened. We are so much closer as a family as we talk about our similar but different journey's. It's really powerful when I can call my older brother and tell him that I tried to talk to a new person today and it felt so awkward and uncomfortable that I ended up saying something stupid and walked away, or a friend reached out to me and I'm so worried about saying the wrong thing that I won't call him back. Or my brother calls me and tells me his biggest client wants him to do more work and instead of being excited, my brother is terrified because this is just one step closer to his eventual failure with this client. We can both talk about our fears and insecurities and work through them together. It's really powerful.

My sister just younger than me was the first who started on the mental health journey and as she shared what she learned it was powerful for the rest of the family. You can be that person in your family. Start your journey and others will see when they are ready.

Finally, huge props to you for speaking up. It takes a lot of courage to talk about these things and you have that courage. Please see that strength in you.

 

It's more common in the older generation to just bury everything because they were taught that talking about it is a sign of weakness. Hell, we didn't even treat our soldiers with PTSD until fairly recently. My dad has been battling depression most of his life but didn't get diagnosed until his 60's. He only went after I opened up to him after some issues I was having at one point. Imagine trying to deal with this for 60 years on your own. Doesn't sound fun to me.

Hopefully we'll continue to kill the stigma surrounding mental illness and more people will seek out help.

 

As far as going to bed, try some background noise. TV or soft music.

Sounds like your mind is having a hard time with the silence.

And wear ear plugs Everytime you use the grinder.

Ear drum damage results in constant ringing.

I have the 2 wheel peel unit. Not much offroading with just a regular ole LSD.

My generation does suck ass, and @Pucks18 you are excluded from that. Also, because you're @bmf4069's son. Lol

I do have ADHD, and was diagnosed early on. (About 6 years old.) From 6 years old to about 17 I was on a heavy dose of Adderall twice daily. That really messed with my emotions, and my brain. Swimming in legal meth for so long did some damage up there in the thought cavity. Especially during my formative years.

I went through severe mood swings, some self-harm thoughts, and actions. After I tried to do some things to "take the pain away." I decided it was in my best interest to quit taking my medication and just deal with it.

Regarding all the "Man, that sucks." Except for family, the "friends" that told me something similar instead of trying to help me are no longer part of my life. I politely declined all their offers of hanging out, and eventually they left me alone. I found I was helping them 10 times more than they were ever helping me.

Take a look at straterra, not a stimulant but amazingly effective for me. My kids can tell almost instantly if I haven't taken it that day

Also, be nicer to yourself, less judgmental, no "shoulds", you're human and flawed, it's ok, we all are.

 

I'm on 24mg of methalyphena something. It helps focus and keeps me somewhat thinnish.

I know what you're dealing with on the friend thing. I was the asshole friend and lost a good friend because I was stupid.

 

@Tundra2 you’ve gotten some good advice here. You seem like a really good guy with a great sense of humor. I gotta say there are many kids your age in the same boat regardless of where they live (city/country). The internets have messed things up for you guys. I’d go on a Millennial

Good on ya for not doing drugs. I know from previous posts you’ve a lot on your hands with the family so there is not much you can do about that except for keep taking care of them. You are good at understanding concepts and pick them up quickly. Clearly you have great talents with body work. Maybe start that business you talked about on the side and then build it up slowly. Post up pics in town. Put your self out there regardless. There are always let downs, but just keep chugging away. You will succeed.

Now I haven’t heard anyone recommend to you about hangin’ with JC, but I will. Hope that little Chapel place up the hill from you is decent. Might find a good little honey and start up a good relationship. A 4WD Club sounds nice, too.

Yeah, it got merged. I was kinda hoping to have one for us first genners since we're kinda misfits in the tundra world and don't venture out past the first gen section.

 

Well, let's see what happens. @Pinay I started a thread a while ago that got merged. Can we get it back to here? A lot of us don't get out to the main forum so I was kinda thinking of a new one here. I wouldn't shoo and turd gens out of it.

Totally hear you on that. The 1st and 2nd gen 4runner are kinda the same, but I still give much respect and liked to watch their threads just from the knowledge standpoint. A lot of toyota mojo crosses over from platform to platform.
“Friday post” comes from tacoma world I guess, but lord have mercy there’s a lot of Friday posts in other newer gen threads. There are some here as well, but they are genuinely looking for help and for the most part go in the right direction.
I’m thankful to own a 1st gen and am excited to take it to the moon! I drove my 05 taco all kinds of places it shouldn’t have gone and it was the best!!!
