So my truck is getting shipped as we speak and I was going to get step bars put on but I'd rather save money and buy aftermarket or used. I've found a few used ones for 200 bucks or less. I'm getting a Calvary blue sport crewmax. I have the preditor bars on my Tacoma but I find they weren't very useful when trying to stand on something to do something on the roof. I was thinking of the thick black and chrome ones or the smaller tube black ones or aftermarket one. Any suggestions for something not too pricey?

I have Rough Country DS2 which I like. I also like the HD2. They are sturdy and I think good value for the price. Something a little different than the standard tube steps or just flat board steps.

    DS2:

    HD2:

HD2 will give you a little more surface area if you are working on stuff on your roof.

Those are not sliders though, just steps. Sliders have much more function to them in that they protect your frame from damage if you drop your truck on to boulders while off-roading, this are beefier than just steps.

For sure they are steps. Prob provide some weight distribution protection; or just damage the entire rocker when the bolts rip out.....LOL. While I do go off road it won’t ever be rock crawling in a full size truck.....eeek;)

I have a dog that is 10 years old and needs help getting in the back seat. Are the HD2 "paw friendly"? I don't off-road so just being steps is fine for me.

@T-Guy69 , I would think so. Definitely one of the more paw-friendly ones I have seen, although it is not a term that I have ever thought about when looking at steps, but your concern makes perfect sense. None of the tube steps and sliders would be paw friendly.
The HD2 has a big flat platform and non-slip plates.
    upload_2020-6-9_7-27-4.jpg

I have the DS2, which doesn't have the larger flat platform, but the steps would be paw friendly in my opinion, however much smaller surface than the HD2. I would recommend the HD2 for those needs.

I like my Tyger faux rock sliders as well. I really don't use them but nobody in my family is 6ft2 besides me. They were very useful this weekend when I picked up my elderly folks to drive around our property. They had no issues getting in and out of my truck.

How solid are the mounts on the tyger ones?I'm not going to use them as a jack point but want solid steps for the family

Im 215lbs and I can jump up and down on them with no flex. They are very stout for running boards.

I'd say if anything is flexing when I'm bouncing in and out of the truck it would have to be the truck mount points. I can't imagine these things have any flex looking at the design. They are very heavy duty and are about 40 lbs each.

Are the Tyger steps steel tube? Anyone put a magnet to it yet? I'm curious if anyone has taken the Tyger steps, fabricated mounts and used them to make a slider out of....a lot of the hard work would be done by doing this...

I got these for my double cab....they are the Toyota cast aluminum. Expensive but I shouldn't have to worry about rust in the future.

Tyger are for sure steel. They are completely coated with bed liner. IF they every rust I'll have them stripped and sprayed by lineX again.....LOL
