Attaching a 10000 lbs WD hitch to a stock 3rd gen SR5 Tundra???

I've got a 3rd gen Tundra, SR5 Crewmax 4x4 5.7 engine, and looking at getting a camping trailer which requires a "10000 WD hitch" which I'm not too familiar with, I know it's a weight distribution hitch all I'm wondering about is the Tundra all good to connect it to or do I need to make any modifications, weight of the trail is 7,400 lbs?

No mod to the truck. Just have to read the instructions to properly adjust the WDH. You should be more concerned about being over weight with a trailer that heavy.

 

Oof. That’s a big girl! I think this falls under “can you? Yes. Should you? Probably not.” To clarify, the WDH attached to the trailer and only to the removable hitch. It will not connect to the truck itself. Which is no problem. I think you’ll find that’s a big trailer for your truck once you run all the numbers. That’s where you’ll have issues.

 

Right the tongue weight will be anywhere from 740 pounds all the way up to 1100 (per the 9-15% rule of thumb). The WDH hutch alone is around 75lbs then you have your passengers as “cargo weight”. These trucks are stout in every aspect except for their cargo capacity because of their curb weight.

Is that 7,400 lbs the dry weight of the trailer or the GVWR?

 

I have a 10k WDH on my Tundra to pull a 26' TT. No problems at all it just slides in the receiver hitch.
