Precisely. Weep for me in my decrepitude and misery. My empty, forlorn existence, devoid of all that is good...

But really, we're talking about "where would you go from here". Well, mountains it is. If I was going to move, I'd go to Canmore AB or Fernie BC (or similar.) Instead, I live a sad, soulless existence here in flat, windy, southwest ontario where all hope is lost... lol.

Edit: and 2020 even robbed me of my vacation to VISIT the mountains. Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.

As someone who grew up in the mountains (not the city) of Colorado and then went to school in Utah and now lives in Southern Utah, I would vote Utah. I have lots of family in Louisiana and Kentucky, never been to Georgia but if it's anything remotely like those two states I would do everything possible to avoid them. If you like the outdoors or natural beauty at all, I don't see how Georgia could hold a candle to Utah. With that said, SLC would be the last place I would move to--and that includes the entire Wasatch Front, "little towns near SLC" is still SLC, it's never ending city for 50 miles. But, even that's better than the South/East imo. Rocky mountains, lakes, slick rock, slot canyons, ski areas, desert, sand dunes, all of that is an easy half day drive AT THE MOST from SLC. To each their own, but Utah has the largest diversity and access of climates and land that I've been to. It's also very open and has (relatively) few rules compared to places like Colorado. But if you like Georgia go for it, less people in Utah the better :D

Sorry, didn't mean to strike a nerve.

I haven't been to Fernie yet but I think Canmore is a pretty decent choice as you can be close enough to the mountains to enjoy them every day but it's just a little bit less busy and expensive than Banff. That's assuming the town will still be there when the tourism industry eventually recovers. The downside is I actually like Jasper a little better than Banff but the closest equivalent to Canmore up there is Hinton and I don't think it would be nearly as nice to live there.
The wife and I went to Revie for the first time on our honeymoon about a year and a half ago. It was awesome. One of my coworkers also told me that there's a really good brewing company there within walking distance of a nice campground and live music on the streets in the summer.

Went to whitefish a few years ago. Sadly during a bad wildfire season so the views were obstructed. Nice lake, ski area, right near the west entrance to Glacier NP... Very nice spot but seems more resort town than home. I'd take it though.

I'm not sure about the affordability factor but they all seem pretty steep. At least it isn't Aspen.

Ah the office. Great shows. Some very big bands played there before they were big. Radiohead being one.

Try Montana, Six months of winter. Temps down to-25 F. + 6 ft snow drift. I spent time there when I was young. Summer are good there. Last time I heard there was no sale tax.

@Mountun Goat doesn't seem to mind Hinton. I worked with a guy who came from Hinton. He lasted 1 year in GP, said to hell with this shithole and moved back to Hinton. LOL.

Tennessee (east) - no state income tax, car tag is flat rate, near the mountains, pretty close to Nashville, Atlanta, Cincinnati, east coast. etc.

Pretty sure no sales or PP tax which is why it is one the safe haven states for people with big money to park residence there.
I know a few that do and thats how I got out there in the first place as well, supporting them and strategic moves to out there as once residency is established big savings follow.

I did have to get a truck licensed for one of them in a tiny Ghost Town that was the county seat for the area they had to be in and that was an experience to say the least.
There are companies out there that will sell you a Montana LLC package and take care of the entire thing for you including getting cars registered and titles in Montana and evidently it is a thriving business niche too.

And the house I was working in is 42 miles from the West entrance to Yellowstone.
45 degrees below when I was last there......but its a dry cold!

No intention to bash Hinton. Just trying to make the point that it's a bit farther from the mountains than Canmore and thus a bit less scenic.

@Mountun Goat can stand down now. :crapstorm:

True, Canmore is pretty much right in the mountains while Hinton is 20min away. I like both towns, but like you I'd give the edge to Canmore though neither have much employment prospects to offer me and the cost of living in Canmore is atrocious. My cousins live there and the only reason they can afford it is because they've been there so long and got in before the prices skyrocketed.

Good call on standing down @Mountun Goat, you were probably about to get the horns!

I love Hinton. Wife likes Hinton. The Mountains do something to you. I can’t really explain it. But there’s something about seeing powerful majestic mountains all the time. Coming home from work- there’s mountains. Wake up- there’s mountains. Go swimming- mountains. Backyard piss, I get to look at mountains :) I never want to leave the great Rocky Mountains. I would like to slide south more, but either way stay near em. We way up north and still experience chinooks all winter which kicks major ass. I shovel a dozen times a winter, cause Hintonites just wait for the sun to melt it. Hintonion? Ah well. All hail mountains. Freal. Peace and love :)

Edit, this thread to long for me to dig into the drama haha. Anywhere you live or plan to live is what you make of it. Life is a game. Win that shit boys.

I hear you. The thing I miss most about BC are the mountains. A close second are the clear, clean rivers and lakes. It's roughly a 2 hour drive from GP to mountains. That's the farthest I ever want to be from them.

That’s it man. Access is key. Which most of us are lucky enough to have as an option. Even the worst possible place to live (no clue where this would be) I’m sure there’s is some type of hidden beauty of a jem spot for zen and recharge.
