Good advice. They actually make tablets for the condensate lines. Bleach isn't bad but it can corrode metal and degrade plastic.

Yeah. I would never use the Bleach on metal or inside the actual unit. Small doses (two ounces) in the PVC Condensate line every year won’t hurt it. The AC will run the Bleach out within a day or two.

Went out to a couple of box stores. Found some ¾" pipe that I think will work.

Speaking with the admins, and principal of local high skoo to let me use their welding shop for this job.

I don't like it, but I can't mig weld in 17 mph gusts. It'll blow my gas away.

Called around to rent a stick welder. Can only find a "rent-a-mig" locally.

Anyone know the best route to buying a rear axle for my 1st gen? Junkyard? Ebay? Or does someone like toyota make refurbished ones?

Honestly, FUCK toyota, they make such great trucks and cars. But then they go around and make shitty ass shit, for example, my differential cover is rusted to fuck, it feels like i can push my god damn finger through the rear cover. Doesnt help that the rear cover looks as thin as a QUARTER. O AND TO TOP IT OFF!!! THE REAR COVER IS WELDED TO THE AXLE, NOT BOLTED IN!!! So when it does rust through you have to replace the whole god damn axle or hire a welder to weld a new cover on. Nice going toyota! Before anyone says "20 year old vehicle rust belt bla bla" i will inform you i have seen numerous vehicles around here the same age and the god damn diff covers are not rotted out about ready to bust a whole through the next time a run over a tree branch in the road. Phew, sorry for the rant.

We're here for you, let it out.........

It's a known problem with better aftermarket rear diff covers out there, but yeah, they do need to be welded on

Its so dumb. Why not make the covers replaceable like thr front diff? Or why not make it like the front diff at all? The front diff is thick as fuck and barely has any rust on it, just surface rust. Its THICK. The rear diff, is as thin as my ex girlfriend. Wtf

I figured since I'd borrowed my neighbors m18 sawzall every day this week for various things Tundra related or not...

I'd go buy one. The M12 version was $168 bare tool.

The M18 version for $178 had a managers special from rural king. Came with a high demand 6.0, and the little set of 5 blades. 3 metal, and 2 multi-purpose. :D

Oh, forgot to mention Home depot had a ONE DAY ONLY sale on the 8th.

    M12/M18 rapid charger, a 6.0HD, and also a 12.0HD for $200 smackers.

Whats your thoughts on a junkyard unit?

I looked around for beds within 300 miles of here. Not many of these old trucks to be had in that radius. I found 3. All the beds I found had large amounts of rust, or were a collision unit.

You may be able to find a truck that has front end damage, but the rear is still good.

If the price is reasonable id be okay with it. I just dont know if i need one from the exact same vehicle as mine. For example, would a 2x4 donor axle work for my 4x4 truck? I know the gear ratios must be the same. But not sure about all the other stuff. Like lsd, abs, 4x4, 4x2 and such.

This is very interesting, so i can buy brand new factory units for a 2001 tundra??? So that right there is a brand new axle housing, and i can also buy a brand new diff internals like this picture here says?

I'm not an axle expert, so I don't know.

Its your truck, at the end of the day you have to decide what you can live with.

    Question for the Ospho people.

Should I apply the new paint directly over the ospho crustiness from reaction, or wire wheel the crusties off?

My gut says wire wheel. Can't find anything specific on the interwebs

What's the end goal? I know the diff cover is shot, but is the rest of the axle toast? The diff cover is the weak point, but the rest of the axle should be salvageable.

It’s a removable third setup. Like the old ford axles. They too suffer from the rot issue.

What does it mean if I saw that pic and instantly thought of the tv show "Justified" then saw your location as Kentucky?

Justified is Harlan, Ky. I've actually been there, and its just as rough as portrayed. Got into lots of trouble I had no business being in.

It's roughly 300 miles/5 hours East of here.

As far as what it means that you thought that?

    Haven't a clue.

I was wondering if Harlan was a tough as it seemed in the show. I was reading something a while back that said the producers wanted to keep the show fairly accurate.

I got into some "Justified" stuff. Some "Outsiders" stuff. If you haven't seen that show, I HIGHLY recommend it.

I sense a bit of hostility :ballchain:
In all honesty, the Japanese owned the 90's and collectively put all others to shame. Some of the best engineering and advancements. Then they went back to sleep for the 2000's. Rust, sticky gas pedal, and the interiors literally melt (I can't make that shit up) WTF. But they still keep running

The rest of the axle has surface rust. But its still in decent shape compared to the rotted cover. I would take a wire brush or something to the rear diff cover, remove all of the rust flakes, spray with pb blast and a bunch of woolwax or coat it in grease. But I'm scared i will take off too much and cause a leak with the wire brush. End goal with my rear end is-eventually fix my pinion bearing, and make sure my diff cover isnt going to rot through. Not leaking yet.
