Opinions wanted, Nerf bars vs. steps

Hello everyone,

I was hoping to get folks' opinions on Nerf Bars vs. Steps.

I've had the n-fab podium, and really like them. But, they affect my clearance.

Has anyone had both, or had experience with them?

As far as steps go, what are everyone's favorites?

 

I asked this awhile back and got some pros and cons of each. My question was more pertaining to keeping the rocker panels from having snow and salt packed against them during the winter months.

one point that was made was that nerf bars don’t protect against door dings as well and running boards do. Some running boards come out further from the truck so if someone parks next you and swings open their door, they are going to hit the running board before they hit tour door. Not sure if Nerf bars offer the same type of protection.

As far as favorites, The RB20’s get a lot of talk on here.

 

That's a good point about door dings. I hadn't thought of that.
My last car (not a truck) was really well maintained, but was a gosh darn magnet for dings that would catch the light just enough that you would always, always notice the ding.

These— and any other— rock sliders aren’t inexpensive, probably too much if all you want is a step and door-ding protection. But if you plan to do any off-roading, it’s sure nice to have full rocker protection as well as that handy step and door-ding protection. Any slider, even those that fit close to the truck like SDHQ will offer that same protection from door dings... but none will protect you from any truck, suv, or Jeep with doors as high as yours. As me how I know.

If you want a cheaper version of steps that look more similar to sliders (minus the heavy duty off-road protection), check out Tiger.

Got them on here through a group buy around a GRAND - can’t remember exactly but they are BEEFY !!- don’t “wheel” my first ever new truck right now - but will down the road and will be protected. !!

Built buy a small company and not mass produced- never seen another set in my travels around Md, Pa Dc or Va travels
I like being custom and original

 

Tyger was in my short list - but not as protective and have seen way too many of them on the road- And all I’ve seen have had rust spots

 

Oh I agree! Just wasn’t sure you were ready to commit to “real” sliders, but that’s the way to go if you’re gonna keep your truck awhile.
