My name is Andrew, and I live in east Texas currently.
I am looking to purchase a first gen Tundra.
Everyone on this forum has been an amazing wealth of knowledge for me to lurk on before I make one of the biggest purchases of my life.
I would really appreciate if anybody out there that feels especially savvy or mechanically knowledgeable about the first gen tundras could volunteer to look over some of my top contenders or just give me more info on problems common for these model years.

If you could please point me in the direction of some threads or really just answer some questions I have about some of the following things:

It seems to me that O2 sensors have been a common problem, but it also seems like there are good how-to's on changing them yourself. Anybody who's gotten them changed, did that solve the problem or did this repeatedly occur in very short intervals? (Having flashbacks about the O2 sensors in my wife's Subaru lemon).

What are some telltale signs that a particular truck has problems with the lower ball joints? I test drove an '04 yesterday and one of my only complaints about it was a small, but noticeable vibration when braking at high speeds (such as coming off of the highway on an exit ramp). Wondering if that's related ..

Also, I'm considering some vehicles with mileages as low as 70k and some as high as 200k. I chose this make and model over any other because I believe in vehicles that last for a really long time. Are there outstanding maintenance/repair items I should be worried about in this range? I have been looking for timing belt changes and water pump, etc., and basic things like the frequency of oil changes.

Anyway, not sure if anybody out there is gonna bother reading all this, but I thought I'd put it out there.

    Anyway,
    Thanks for having me.
    Andrew

I bothered to read it. 10/10 would read again. Welcome over!

What years are those vehicles you're looking at?

Welcome from Ontario Canada , as with any first gen make sure you inspect the frame really well . If it’s had the timing belt and water pump replaced that would be a bonus . I think the timing belt and water pump need to be changed at 90k miles or 9 years .
