2020 Tundra Non-JBL Stereo questions

Hey everyone, New guy here!
I searched the forum for a post asking these questions and could not find anything.

Let me start by adding that I have done hundreds of stereo installs over the years (home and auto), and I am an Electro-Mechanical Technician as my profession (I Solder and build electrical components).

So the 2020 Tundra Stereo Head Unit plugs are different than previous years. Through an unfortunate event, I fried my stock 2020 Stereo Head Unit. specifically the power supply board. I blame myself (for not taking my research a step further and not pulling the head unit to check the wiring and the "plug & play" harness that I purchased. I was only wanting to upgrade speakers and amp while keeping the factory head unit.

I have a few questions:

1. has anyone successfully upgraded their stereo in their 2020 Tundra? If so, what all did you use? (stereo brand, harness, were you able to retain your other features like steering wheel controls, back up camera, USB, ect)

2. Does anyone have a stock 2020 non-JBL head unit for sale?

I’m curious what you did exactly? I plan on eventually swapping out the small amp under the front seat with a

$290 Alpine KTP 445U Universal Power Pack

Alpine KTP 445U using the J144 and J145 Adapters

 

I wish I knew as well. I was using the factory amp connectors under the passenger seat. I did notice out of the 2 harnesses, the one I feel did the damage, had the remote wire in a different spot then the other harness. Once I get tunes again, I will look into the damage to the stereo and try to figure out what went wrong.

 

You could pray to the karma gods to have mercy on you and bring it back to Toyota for a warranty repair

 

My brother is a master tech at Toyota, he tried to pull some strings for me already. There is a HUGE process and investigation that starts when a "high dollar" item is brought in for warranty, and to be honest, it is electronics and at the end of the day, I did mess up one way or another, so being an honest individual, I have to suck this one up. It burns, but lesson learned. He can get me a brand new one at his cost, about $2300.

I am looking at the Dasaita PX6 10", and I am in contact with the company confirming that they have the correct harness for the 2020 to integrate from the factory wiring to my truck. Problem is the delivery is estimated July 22 - Aug 12..

 

I found someone who repairs these head units for Toyota. He got me a power supply board. My head unit it fixed!

I did purchase a Dasaita 10.2" screen, and after communicating with them, they were able to send me a picture of their 2020 harness to integrate my back up camera, steering wheel controls and USB to their stereo, so that is ordered as well.

 

which one you gonna go with?

 

Once the Dasaita comes in, I will probably go with that. As long as the harness from them works. If not, I will hold on to it all until something comes out for the 2020. As long as I have my stock stereo for now, I can wait. The hard part is done!

 

What sub is that you are using?

 

It is a DB Drive K5F 10D4 10" Shallow mount sub

 

Thoughts on the sub, haven’t heard one in person. Looks like a nice unit.

 

I love it! I actually had it in my Tacoma for a year or so. I sold my Tacoma, put an MTX 10" back in the Tacoma box and pulled my DB out for this project.
I built this box. The required air space for the DB Drive is .5 cu ft, so I built it about .8 cu ft. (hopefully better lows). I have not tested it yet in my Tundra. Found out the hard way that the wiring is different in the 2020 over previous years.

 

I need to test this out, but in my research on the 2020 Tundra Head Unit (NON-JBL), I found that Toyota changed the head unit in the 2018 and newer Camry's. The face plate is different, but the rest of the unit is identical, down to the connectors.

Logically thinking, I don't see why Toyota would change the harness/connectors and wire every vehicle with the new connectors, differently, so I am betting that we should be able to use a 2018+ Camry harness to upgrade our 2020 Tundra's stereos and even Tacoma's.

I ordered a 4 ch LOC on Amazon, so once it is in and I have it installed, I can report back,if anyone is interested.

Also, per a rep at Toyota, in these newer models, JBL and non-JBL is now interchangeable?
