Gloss black Hood LineX or flat charcoal black wrap

So im debating on whether to go with a Gloss black lineX on the hood or to wrap the hood in Charcoal flat black to give it a little more unique look but protect against rock chips n such.

 

I would start with a wrap. It's not definitive.

I didn’t realize Line-X made a gloss finish, I’ve only ever seen it in matte.

 

I think you just add gloss color to it on top of the black mixed in.

 

I worked at Linex as a summer job, many years ago. Unless something has changed, there was no gloss application. There was a UV protection, but no gloss. It just looked glossy the first few weeks.

I'd say go for the wrap

I wrapped my 4 Runner hood and it's a great option. I had it 3 years and it was maintenance free the entire time. Just do the full hood as it will change the fade rate on paint when you wrap so way easier to do on black truck.

 

i would think gloss would suck on bright days. there's a reason people put flat black strips on their hoods the sun reflection on a gloss black hood is horrible

 

I just had the hood & roof on my 2002 Tundra sprayed with Line-X.
The only downside I see so far is the added weight to the hood, but there is no glare and I'll never have to worry about waxing the roof & hood again.

I will probably have the hood & roof on my 2007 sprayed.

do you know about how much weight it added?

 

It's glossy now, but it will fade over the summer.
Unlike any wrap, the Line-X texture breaks up any glare.
As for added weight, it feels like it added about 15 lbs. to the hood

 

What about line x ultra?? I have a shop that can do that near me. Its meant for spraying right over paint. Its light and will never fade and it can color match to almost any color.. Its different than regular line x/premium line x which i have in my bed. I might do line x to both of my bumpers in the near future.

 

Line-x has Line-X Xtra which is supposed to be gloss. Sounds like it still has texture, but retains the "just sprayed" look.

 

Line-X Premium is gloss but will look like its fading some if you don't clean it properly. Me personally I wouldn't Line-X just a hood. Also keep in mind, to do it properly, the bottom side has to be done as well.

 

Why would you need to ever spray the underside of the hood?

 

Line-X is meant to encapsulate the item and bond to itself. My rear bumper had to be redone a year later bc it wasn't done correctly and it peeled.

 

What?. Why don't they spray the under side of the bed then?

 

spraying underside would just be sandwiching. wouldn't you have to wrap all the way around the edges to encapsulate?
