    I've got a 2012 4.0 and it's lifted with slightly bigger tires. I won't be selling it at all as it is incredibly reliable and has been in my family for 7 years. I'm looking for any tip or ways to improve my performance. I have see some people mention pedal commanders for this truck with this engine but I don't want to pull the trigger on something that I don't know the reviews on. Anyways any experience on this truck that can be passed on to me would be highly appreciated.

    IMHO don't mess with that engine, it's extremely reliable the way it was designed. It's not a performance engine, it's a work horse engine, just take care of it and it should last you a long, long time.

    Only issues i've had is a with the trans which i rebuilt to avoid further damage, any chance that you know when to do a spark plug change? Owners manual doesn't have a direct answer

    It depends on the type of plugs that are in it, if they are iridium plugs then they can go 100k with no issues or problems. You may have to pull one of the plugs to see what's in it.

    I believe that they are iridium but to my knowledge they have never been changed, back when i didn't have the tools to work on this truck the dealership said they didn't need to be changed but after seeing that they probably need to be changed at 100K I am looking to find the correct replacements, haven't had any issues but I bought the truck from my dad well after 100K and to our knowledge there has never been a spark plug job done to it

    If you change them, I'd just use whatever the manual says, which is probably NGK Iridium plugs of some kind that fit your particular Toyota V6

    Trailer brake. Limousine tint in rear windows. Ultra Gauge "Blue". Toyota bed mat and bug deflector.
    Denso Iridium, that is what I run, and ran in my previous 2005 Tacoma 4.0. Denso is OEM, NGK is for when they can't get Denso.

    For what it's worth, I have used NGK in all of my motorcycles, cars, and trucks for the past 50 years. I've never had a problem, very good plugs. I just put a fresh set in my 5.7 a couple of weeks ago (isn't it amazing how much extra time we have now?).

    Alot of them
    The Pedal Commander will eliminate the throttle response lag. Many of us have them.

    Technically both are OEM. Toyota will often factory install Denso plugs on one side of the engine and NGK on the other. It's not for engineering reasons but business ones as far as I know. Supplier reliability, fallback, contract volumes, etc
