Not sure if it's normal or not but lately I've noticed my truck has a little whine to it when accelerating, more prounounced as the rpms increase and right before a shift. Doesn't get any louder if you step in it. I tried to get a video, not to sure if it can be heard or not.

Any thoughts? Normal quirk of our trucks?

I don’t hear it. However, I don’t hear high pitch sounds as well as my wife and kids, so it’s probably me and not you.

Sounded like a blower spooling up... when are you due for timing belt, water pump and belt tensioner? Might be due

Is it still under warranty? Take it to the dealer if it is. Does sound like an idler or tensioner.

Exactly, but unfortunately no boost for me...lol. I'm only 1t 45k so I doubt timing chain.

Idler or tensioner covered under powertrain? I'm past the Bumper to bumper 36k, if there not I will just remove belt and spin them by hand and see what they sound/feel like. At idle there isn't much whine, just under acceleration pretty much.

Whine or a whistle? not trying to be off the wall but did you change the air filter to like a k&n ? Just wondering .

Its a whine, no whistle. No Intake for me, I have an Afe drop in and TRD airflow accelerator but this has become a recent thing and I have had those parts on for 15k now.

I’ve got the same issue. Mostly under load around 2k rpm. Dealer couldn’t replicate of course. Worse when it’s really cold out and more evident upon cold starts but I can drive all day and can still hear it faintly. ‘19 w/20k

Mine is the same. Stops above 2k RPM. '17 with 17k miles.

Did you replace the throttle body gasket with one without the screen?

It only started around 5k miles ago and that’s what bothers me. What could have changed?

Edit: it’s totally different than the throttle body whistle that I can also hear. It sounds like one of those high mileage minivans that sounds like it is going to the moon with transmission whine before it shifts

It's a whine, almost like a belt. Not the whistle that sounds like radio feedback or the fan motor of your HVAC, which is the high flow filter whistle.

I say a bearing in a pulley...could be AC, PS, Alt, Tensioner, water pump, idler, etc.

Agreed. Any way to home diagnose which one it could be? Seems like the kind of goose chase dealerships shrug off.

Other threads say air injector pump. Only happens to me on cold days and goes away once fully warm.

I’ve had it since day 1. ‘18 here. Barely noticeable after you start getting up in speed and rpms but can notice when taking off.

    Tastefully enhanced...
Idler/tensioner pulley whine...it will oscillate with RPMs too, right? Tundras are known for occasionally faulty tensioners... had mine replaced and it fixed the whine...now it's back after 5k miles. It's a crap shoot with aftermarket and OEM on these specific parts...hard to pick up the clean end of a turd in this case. It 100% sounds like the tensioner from my experience...

Mines whined since day one and goes up with rpms. I’ve lived with it for 35k miles and still runs good.
