Why is my battery dead

I have less than 6,000 miles on my 2017 and the battery went dead? Tried jumping and leaving charging for along time NOTHING? I will have to have it towed to Toyota!!

Yeah, the factory batteries are garbage. They will probably replace it with another ticking timebomb

That's about right for these Tundra batteries, Mine barely lasted 3 years. I stuck a group 24 from Walmart in there for 50 bucks and it's going on 2 years ! Lol

 

My wife's Infinity has been eating a battery about every 3 years. The first they replaced under warranty (just before factory warranty ran out). The second I just replaced this January. I went with a non-Infinity battery to see if it holds up better.

That said, our 2014 4Runner is still (knock on wood) running the battery that shipped from factory. I figure this summer will likely be its last, but who knows? Batteries are weird - some last forever and others not so much.

 

Why tow it to the dealer? Is it still under warranty. If not, why not just buy a new battery?
If the truck only has 6000 miles in 3 years that's very little run time for the alternator to top off the battery. I would recommend putting a battery tender on the next battery or you may end up in the same situation.

Drive it more than 2000 miles a year and charge it up! Haha I understand. My original battery didn't last long either. I am lucky to get 3 years on any battery.

Been there ~ done that ~ got another battery and a battery maintainer off the web.
I drive maybe 2K miles per year which kills batteries for lack of use and charging ~ parasitic loss and all.

Works like a champ but there are lots of others that will do the same job ~ highly recommended for your motorcycle as well.

 

The interstate in my Chevy lasted 10 years. The NAPA Legend in my Corolla was recommended by my mechanic, is 3 years old and going strong. I do NOT optima batteries. If you drain them they do not seem to come back. Seem in on the one in my Ridgeline and boat. I will not buy another. For the boat I just got an Odyssey based on reviews I read.

Interstate batteries are great and affordable. That is what I replaced my stock battery with recently.

 

This tread brings up a valuable point. I do most of my driving in my Corolla XRS due to the 30 MPG. The tundra is driven less and sometimes for short hops when I use it to tow. I will put the battery charger on it to top it off and run the refresh cycle.

Maybe, just maybe I can get some more life out of the battery. With my Chevy, I use the quick disconnect to stop "background" battery drain.

6000 miles over 3 or 4 years will do that if you don't keep it on a charger.

Your truck has about the same miles per year as most people do in a month. Letting a vehicle sit that much isn't the best

 

Mileage has absolutely nothing to do with battery life and if anything having the truck sit for months at a time makes it more likely to have a fully discharged battery. In particular with freezing temperatures a discharged battery can fail and it is the fault of the owner's neglect.
I have a diesel pickup that gets used only sporadically and I use a battery conditioner on its two batteries to keep them as healthy as possible for as long as possible. People with power boats are used to having to do this with the boat batteries.
