Total newb question. Does the harness for towing come with the truck at purchase?

Honest question. Just trying to learn before I go get my first trailer.

If equipped with the towing package (which most of the newer trucks are) they will have a 7 pin and 4 pin hookup. They are mounted on the left side of the rear bumper.

Every trailer I've ever purchased has had the wiring for the lights, brakes, etc. already on them.
If using a travel trailer it will use the round 7 pin. Simple cargo trailers (like you get from Tractor Supply or Lowes) use the small flat 4 pin. Some boats will use the 7 pin also.

Another thing to note, if you are planning/looking at trailers with brakes, just because the truck has the plug and harness to talk to the trailer doesn't necessarily mean it has the brake controller. Your truck will still run the trailer lights regardless of a controller, but without the controller you can't use the trailer brakes. The stock brake controller will be mounted below the dash to one side of the steering wheel and look like this:

If you want a brake controller, they can be had for fairly cheap and you'll just need a Tundra specific plug and play harness (all trucks come ready for a brake controller so it'll have the plug under the dash for the controller harness). I have a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 on all my trucks personally, but lots of options: https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Automotive-Trailer-Brake-Controls/zgbs/automotive/15737671

As others have said, ALL Tundras with or without the tow package come with 4/7 trailer receptacles in the rear. This is confusing, because on Big 3 trucks presence of those receptacles means the truck has the tow package. Not so for Tundras. If the Tundra does not have the tow package option, those receptacles are still conveniently pre-wired to the truck for full and complete operation once an aftermarket trailer brake controller is added.

If you already have a Toyota integrated brake controller, you may want to change it. If you don't have a factory controller, that means you don't have the tow package. You can add a really good aftermarket controller using an adapter harness, but you won't have the transmission cooler that is part of the tow package option, so plan accordingly. See this thread:

Toyota intergraded controller only applicable for 2016+, earlier trucks with tow package had no factory controller.

    Thanks for the replies.

I was over thinking it. Yes, the truck I have does have the integrated trailer Brake system.

Planning on getting the harbor frieght trailer that hauls up to 1700 lbs with the weigh safe adjustable trailer hitch. Decided on this becuase I am am leveled out with the bilstien 6112's with 5160s. Shackles will be added soon also.

Good info. The controller that started in 2016 I understand was not really integrated into the vehicle computer like the 2018+ version, but was simply Toyota's built-in version of available aftermarket controllers (no nanny prompts, unreliable safety defaults, etc.).

I didn't know when Toyota started providing brake controllers with the tow package, only that they've never been worth crap. That's why I said, "IF you already have a Toyota integrated brake controller, you may want to change it." :D But...OP has a 2015, and says he has "integrated trailer Brake system". I'm sure there's a backstory there...maybe prior owner had it retrofitted by the dealer.

    Ohhhohoho...insufficient data input.

To answer your original question, No, you will not need any additional harness. But, I understand that patience can be a big asset. :D
