I recently bought my neighbors 2015 Limited Crew Max. I knew that I immediately wanted a bit more kick to the factory stereo, but didn’t want to replace the head unit or factory speakers yet. I am a transplant from a Nissan Titan that I owned for the last 15 years. Shortly after purchasing the Titan, I bought a box from Tech12volt and have always been impressed with it. My first thought for adding a sub was to reach out to James at tech12volt. I had an old Rockford Fosgate Punch 55.2 sitting around from years past and mentioned that I would like to order a sub, box and line output converter. I have had a 12” sub in the trunk of various cars and wanted something like that sound, but knew there were space limitations. I’m also approaching 50 and not really sure I need all that much rattle, but I do like my music to “kick”. After chatting with James and letting him know the direction I was looking to go, he steered me to a 10” JL Audio in a ported box. I placed my order and found that I was his 10,000th Tundra order and something extra would be shipped with my order. Wow, how crazy I thought. Over the next few days, I thought about it a bit more and sent him a message stating that I would like to add in a JL Audio amp as well. I mean why not, right? He made an adjustment to my sub to 2 ohms instead of the 4 ohm sub I needed for the RF amp. During this time, I realized that I really needed to replace the factory non JBL Entune amp as the front speakers were cutting out. I asked if they had an extra one floating around that could be added in, or what option I had, he said that a factory amp would be sent out with my order. I received all my stuff yesterday and all I can say is WOW! On top of my order was the extra amp, a 4 gauge wiring kit, hat, stickers, sunglasses, a bag. I spent yesterday afternoon putting this stuff together, holy crap, that JL 10”/ported box is a sledgehammer!4789E591-9BEF-4792-AB13-5E209E32F707.jpg91FC7F67-302D-41C1-B045-78381E1913FA.jpg

Nice. I love that he actually listens to your wants. It’s not a one size fits all operation. He nailed my system as well, couldn’t be happier.

Would that JL sub be an upgrade over the JBL WS Club 1000? I have the same box from James and want to know which 10" JL subs will fit - depth being the biggest issue.

I don’t know what the JBL sounds like, but the JL hits hard. This would be a question for James on comparison, but some DJ Magic Mike rattles the mirror in my truck! It definitely sounds like more than a 10” back there

    so let me ask...

I got a jbl partybox 300 which of course is like comparing a pineapple to an tangerine...

But what i want to know is something I experienced with that toy is I could, on some songs, Differentiate low bass notes from one another, where as in most Bass units I usually here those combined. How So in Yours?

I can try to answer. I listen to a very wide range of music. If I had to classify myself it would be classic rock and 80’s alternative, but I did grow up with the cars that go boom. With that said, my hearing is a little wonky with highs, I can differentiate between different bass notes and I do hear them with this setup, although it sounds like it bellows a bit more on the lows. What I mean by that is the low lows really hit and carry.

As I indicated in my original post, I have had Fosgate and JL 12’s and 10’s in the past. I have never had a ported box, always sealed. This box sounds a little punchy when turned down low, like you are holding back a caged animal. I find myself taming it with the amp controlled bass knob, but when let loose, with the power of the JL 500 to it, it’s like being in a cage with a lion.

name a couple of songs that you would be able to differentiate the bass to and I will tell you what I hear. Also if it’s any consolation, I am considering the same setup for the trunk of my wife’s Jetta.

And just to clarify, the wired in bass control knob is key. I would not like this thing near as much if it wasn’t there. I mounted it in one of the knock outs.3EC63CAA-A5CD-4AE2-8C1B-A5643BB1A5EF.jpg

Per JL’s website...The 10W1v3 is an outstanding choice when space is very tight and amplifier power is moderate. It features shallow mounting depth (4.6 in. / 117 mm) and a compact motor structure, allowing it to comfortably fit in a lot of spaces where a typical 10-inch driver will not. Lacking a pole vent, the rear of the motor structure can be placed directly against an enclosure boundary
