Oil Pressure on 2005 Tundra

I have owned a 2003, 2006 and now just purchased a 2005 Tundra with 21,000 miles. The oil pressure on the 05 when warm at 55 mph is 1/4 on the gauge, while the 03 and 06 registered 1/2 with the same castrol synthetic oil. Please give me your suggestions, I have read some of the threads and still confused. Go easy on this 80 year old LOL Thank You in advance. Archie

 

I'd suspect the gauges in these trucks and most other vehicles these days are little better than idiot lights. I wouldn't really expect them to be entirely precise. I'm not sure if there is a way of tapping in to the lubricating system and add a more precise aftermarket gauge on these engines. Hopefully you'll get some more suggestions.

 

My 2005 sits around the 1/4 mark as well. That's normal for these trucks.

Congratulations on the new truck - amazingly low miles. I too think you cannot rely on the original gauges and would suggest that you test the oil pressure using a calibrated gauge. If you cannot do it yourself, a competent mechanic should be able to locate the oil pressure sending unit location and screw in a mechanical gauge for this test. Though I don't know have specific knowledge and don't own a gen 1 truck, this test should be fairly simple to conduct. It would give you comfort about your truck's oil pressure.

 

Yea idle specs like 10psi. They don’t need much oil pressure. 1/4 is where mine sits unless 2000rpm or higher

I bought the Tundra in Florida, one owner, always garaged. I live in North Carolina and bought the truck from looking at pictures, never done that before. I was a little concerned about the low low miles, but so far it seems to be ok. Drove back from Florida, no problems. Not a scratch on the exterior or interior. It looks brand new. If I knew how, I would send pictures. Thanks

I think 1/2 way mark gets less customer complaints since its right in the middle ... So in newer models both Voltage and oil pressure are right in that area. Like politics center for popularity

 

Curious how much above an average 2005 did you pay for such a low mileage? 2005 with 21K miles is a very good find. It maybe one of the few in the country ...

I would love to see a picture of your truck. I’d like to find a good deal on a low mileage 1st gen Tundra. I just purchased a one owner 2003 Sequoia with 58k miles on it four $4000 and my oil pressure sending unit was clearly bad. Check out the picture below as an example. But sometimes it would read up to 1/4. Anyway I replaced it and now it reads accurately. Maybe yours is going out too.
