    Hey all,
I hope you're doing well, staying healthy, and remaining sane during this crazy pandemic!

I'm going to purchase a 2017 CrewMax 4x4 next year, and am really excited to learn about what you guys are doing to your rigs. My goal is to have a comfortable vehicle I can take my beautiful bride camping as well as have a totally B.A. zombie apocalypse escape vehicle! I'm doing my research now so hopefully I don't have any surprises when I'm about to make an upgrade.

My first question relates to after-market replacement fuel tanks. My research has led me to understand the 26 gallon (OEM) tank is easily swapped out with the TransferFlow Fuel Systems 46 gallon tank, basically plug-n-play.

However, due to structural differences, specifically a brace bar being present in the Limited and 1794 upgrades, the 38 gallon (OEM) cannot be replaced without some modifications (removal of said brace).

Has anyone done this mod? If so, any major issues? In regards to having greater fuel capacity, are there other options I'm overlooking or unaware of? Are there other companies I should be looking at?

    Thanks!
    R.

Greetings Mr. Newbie. You've found your family.

Another vote for getting the 38 gallon factory tank that comes on Tundras as an option. Look until you find one outfitted accordingly.

    Welcome aboard sailor.

Wow, really great input everyone, thanks! Ok, so I've done some more digging and have seen that our very own @Pinay has done the mod herself . . . what was the weight difference between the old/new EMPTY tanks?

    Respectfully,
    R.

P.S. US Army all the way ;-)

I haven’t done a larger tank upgrade but did change the straps to accommodate the skid plate.

I'm having a difficult time navigating the different threads and finding the info I'm looking for. I want to be respectful and not ask questions that have already been answered.

Please read below then let me know if I should start a new thread.

What I would like is a shell topper with a cargo rack attached on top and then another separate rack on the cab. I'd like them to be horizontally flush to create one large rack the length of the rig.

I'd like the shell topper to have large, wing-style side windows and the rear to be one solid pane, also wing-style. I can't find any information about static weight load capacity for the three (3) companies I've started to research (A.R.E., Snugtop, Leer). I am using my phone and that could be some of the issue (not all those sights are optimized for mobile use).

I'd like the rack to be similar to Prinsu or Front Runner. No preference other than strength and durability.

Eventually, I will have a tent over the shell topper portion, but not even close to that decision making process.

Recap: I need to identify the shell topper and the cargo rack preferred vendors for the 2017 CrewMax SR5 4x4.

    Thanks!
    R.
