We get this question A LOT, so we used a Tacoma front coilover as the example.

Fox 2.5 Coilover, Remote Reservoir 0-3” Extended length with DSC (FOX-880-06-418)
King 2.5 Coilover, Remote Reservoir 0-3” Extended length with Adjuster (KRS-25001-119A-EXT)

Yeah that what I have been hearing. More inline to King racing series shocks.

It looks like both Fox and King have the adjusting collar up top. The only other adjustable coilovers I've had were on 1st gen Tacomas many years ago, and their collars were on the bottom. Adjusting them was real easy, and I was able to wrap the whole wrench around the collar. It seems like it would be harder to get the collar wrench up top with the top plate mount in the way. Do any of these higher end coilovers come with adjustable collars on the bottom? Or is it not that big a deal to adjust them from the top?

Good article, matches my experience of the two. More or less identical but Fox uses noticeably superior shaft materials and coatings. My King shafts are rusting after a year, my 4Runner Fox stuff doesn't show any signs of corrosion.

Based off piston design, my guess would be King.

It's pretty standard now for the preload nut to be on top. It can be difficult to adjust those on the vehicle no matter what. Since they really only get adjusted once or twice once installed, I suppose it shouldnt be that big of a deal.
Yes the piston rods (shafts) are a huge advantage. We hardly ever get any OEM Fox 2.5 Coilovers sent in for rebuilds.

Thanks for the info and comparison. How do you think these Fox compare to the FOX TRD Pro suspension? Are you able to rebuild/re-valve the TRD Pro stuff? Do you think the regular Fox suspension can be tuned to ride as well on road as the Pro suspension and still be at least decent off road?

    Thanks again for your insight.

Just a different type of shock all together, those are internal bypass. We do not work on those, thats something you would have to send into Fox directly to have serviced. We believe a custom tuned shocks will ride better than any off the shelf shock. We specialize in tuning, so we custom valve each shock specifically for the truck its going on, and how it will be driven mostly.

We actually have a Tacoma in the shop today where we are removing the Fox TRD Pro suspension and replacing with some tuned Fox 2.5s

@AccuTune Offroad you guys are local. Do you rebuild ADS triple bypasses ? how about Kings coilovers ? can they be rebuilt in an extended version, different spring weight , etc etc..
also do we need to bring shocks off the truck or you have a lift to remove from the truck ?
    thanks !

Great article, thanks for sharing. Do both Fox and King come with UCAs or are those separate? If included, are there any major differences?

We are familiar with them, but not impressed by their quality. Not here to bash other companies, just discussing the top 2 shock brands in the industry.

We only work on Fox & King shocks. Feel free to shoot us a message if you have some detailed questions about your specific set of shocks, happy to help.

Sold separately, and made by companies like Icon, Camburg, Total Chaos, Dirt King etc.. There are differences btw balljoint/uniball/heim/urethane etc... plenty of threads out there about control arms.

Got it, I figured that was the case but the article seemed to infer that they were included in the kit, which surprised me.
