My contractor dropped off a load of redwood deck boards today and he noticed his bed shifted downward just behind the cab. The boards were very heavy, loaded with moisture. He has a Rack-It over-cab rack mounted at four corners of the bed. Most of the weight was carried by the center rack rail. Has anyone seen this before and if so, is there a way to restore original height of the bed? The gap between bed and cab is very noticeable from top to bottom. Just trying to help the poor guy.

It happens with overloaded racks. If it was a Toyota, the usual answer is replace the bed.

Thanks. Sounds like he might need to replace it. Just got a text from him, upon further inspection, it appears it torqued forward and collapsed the bracing. I don't have any photos. Forgot to add, it is a 2008 model.

I used to think that failures like this were a bad thing on Toyotas. The fact is they have limits when it comes to weight capacity and the can bend, and those limits are less than a Superduty. But as long as rust is kept in check, they won't break and leave you stranded - they will always keep working, even if a little bent.
