Thinking of trading 17 Tacoma for one of these Tundra. First is Radiant Red OR with 4.6 column shifter with 52,000 miles. 4.6 is ok with me my trailer is only 3700 lbs and Tacoma pulls it fine. The second is a 5.7 limited Black with leather also DC but 87,000 miles. Both are same price. Both are 2016. Basically I can get either for my Taco plus 3k. I want more highway cruising comfort for my yearly cross country camping trips. I’m pretty sure mpg will be the same as I usually get 9-11mpg pulling camper in Taco. I like red better but black is really cool too. 4.6 has 35,000 less miles. Limited interior looks better but not that much of a difference. I see advantages to both types of shifters so that is equal for me. Any opinions welcome. I know either will be more comfortable than my Taco on the long drives. When I bought it new I though I would be doing shorter 3 to 4 hour trips not 6 week long excursions and find after a few hours I am squirming around looking for the right position that is never quite found.

I would probably buy the one that was in better shape first. I’m guessing it’s the 4.6 if it’s the same price as a limited. My 4.6 has been fine, I have 81k miles now. Cam tower leak was fixed under warranty but otherwise it’s trouble free. I average 16 mpg mixed driving and all time high just over 21 which was the same as my Taco. It tows a trailer just fine but it does downshift more than a 5.7 does. Also you don’t get a tow mode, so I just use the S and leave it in 5 or 4 if it’s a hilly section.

My real regret is I should have just spent the extra $5k and got an 8’ bed 5.7 SR5. I don’t care for leather much unless it’s full on perforated and has climate control like a Lexus. And I wasn’t gonna spend $60k on a Tundra.

Most importantly, especially if you’re towing, make sure you get the 38 gallon gas tank.

    Welcome from NY.

I would go with the 5.7 engine. 35,000 mile difference is nothing on a Tundra.
    Good luck with your decision.

Thanks all. I will be taking a flashlight to check both for the cam tower. I think they are both in really good shape. I like red better but the Limited interior is really nice. Also me making silly assumptions the Black Limited is at a ME/ BE dealer so thinking some sedate people trading for a luxury car. The gas tank would be nice if it is bigger but I travel with a woman who drinks coffee while traveling so stopping every 2 hours anyway lol. I have been in Florida for 2 months so going home in two weeks. I will keep everyone posted

OCD kicking in. Would it be ridiculous to get a second gen if the dealer paid me the difference for my trade value? 5.7 2010 69k miles. That would leave about $5,000 for mods such as leveling, stereo unit wheels and tires. I do like the grill of the second gen.2123DE04-57AD-4729-853D-7BEA45E14FFE.jpg

Double check the colour on that second Tundra. In the pic it looks like ‘inferno’, not ‘radiant red’. Inferno > black! :D

they have it listed as radiant but you are correct I think it looks like Inferno too. I am a big fan of Inferno and if it is I could just bring it home and wife wouldn’t notice. LolA9A93A69-CCF7-4ED6-A1D4-E70E3DFD238C.jpg

Mpg wise it’s about the same. Hp goes to 5.7. I am pretty sure the 4.6 has the smaller 28 gas tank.

Deff 5.7 with 38 gallon tank. This is after many trips from the Carolinas to S. Florida with a trailer.

5.7 all day! Once you drive both you will for sure pick the 5.7. The second gen looks like a nice option too if the previous owner took care of it.

    Curse you Perry the Platypus!
As long as its in good condition, go with the 5.7. That way you know you have the most power available just in case...

All other things being equal (color, option, condition, etc.) I’d take the 2nd with cash on trade in for $5,000, Alex!
