I am hoping someone can give me some insight into an issue I'm having with my 4x4 on my 2007 Tundra 5.7. I can engage my 4 high with no problem but when I engage the 4 lo, the 4 lo light blinks continuously and never goes into 4 lo. Has anyone ever had this problem? Thanks for the help.

might be a dumb response.. but is the truck in neutral when engaging into 4lo?

Did you place the gears in neutral before moving to 4LO?

As the others said. You definitely have to do it in the right sequence or it won’t work. First it has to be in 4 hi and completely engaged. Then it has to be in neutral for it to engage 4 lo.

    Any warning lights on?

I did have it in neutral when shifting to 4 low. The check engine light stays on, but no other warning lights were on. The 4 hi light is lit up solid, and the 4 lo light continues to blink...never going to solid.

I believe the 4LO doesn't stop blinking to let you know you are on 4LO. I don't believe it goes solid like 4HI does IIRC.

Thanks for posting that other thread SC_TRD. I will check it out. Forgot to mention, of course the VSC light is on when I engage the 4x4, as I'm sure that's normal.

Huh. I was pretty sure my 4 lo stops blinking once it’s fully engaged.

Sometimes after changing to 4lo i have to go in reverse a short distance for it to kick in, i may be in neutral at times on a hill rolling back or put in reverse till it engages

It is important to exercise your 4WD at least once per month. They recommend going to a dirt road where you can safely engage it and run it for about a half mile at least (4Hi) to keep everything lubricated and moving. I try to run 4Lo at least .2 mile. Also make sure to keep the actuators clean and inspect for wiring and seal damage.

I thought it was supposed to be about 10 miles. That's the way I remember it because a round trip to work for me is right around 10 miles so I figure if I engage 4Hi on my trip to and from work one day a month (as my drive is essentially one straight road), I'll have properly exercised the system.

You are doing it perfect, I was stating a very minimum.

Timely thread. On my 2012 at 103K miles my 4 lo actuator gave up the ghost. In the dealer right now to get replaced under my extended warranty. 3200$ job, transfer case has to come off.

My truck, as soon as you start it the 4 lo light blinks, CEL comes on, traction control goes off, and the truck goes in limp mode.
