I hear feedback/static in my speakers when my radio is on. Do I need to run my wiring differently? I didn't do any wiring modification to the harness except under the passenger seat where the amp is. Can I buy shielding or something? TIA.

What changes did you make to the audio system? It could be several things so knowing what was changed should help find your resolution. Are you getting this in all of the speakers?

Did a lot. Replaced component amp, all door speakers, all dash speakers, installed sail tweeters, have subs with sep amp...lol.

I have a feeling I need to relocate the component amp ground...I bolted it in an existing bolt hole right near the amp rack.

Did you run a new power wire to the amp? Were you able to get a clean signal when tuning the new amp?

I grounded right near the amp rack as well - just make sure you sand the paint off to get a good bare metal connection.

ETA if you have the power wire for the amps running along the signal wires that can cause signal interference like you're describing or it might be as simple as adjusting the gains.

The amp was pre-tuned by James. I hope it's the ground as I dont want to have to pull up carpet to re-route wires...

Moving the ground didnt help. I'm mostly hearing the "hiss" come out of the sail tweeters

James confirmed it's the stock HU. Time to go shopping.

Huh...is that going to be an issue with anybody using an amp with the stock HU? I hope not...

He says the bluetooth is always on so feedback is there and even more audible with tweeters in the sails

If what you're saying is correct...I wonder if

    a) there's a way to turn off BT
    b) always using the USB plug (for CarPlay) with the stock HU alleviates that.

I do know that unlike most, I wasn't planning on going crazy with the build. I simply want more bass and better quality than stock amp provides. I wasn't planning on replacing dash tweeters and the like.

Could always just do subs in a box. Do you have factory tweeters up front?

Here's what I'm about to do, and will post what you did for comparison:

Replaced component amp - about to do this but with a JBL 5-channel amp
Replaced all door speakers - going to
Replaced all dash speakers - wasn't planning on it
Installed sail tweeters - wasn't going to
Have subs with sep amp - see above.

I mean, the plan was for me to get somewhat better quality of sound, with more bass, at the same volume. I wasn't looking for "zOMG night and day" - just wanted somewhat better mids/highs, and more bass (obviously LOL).

If I *have* to install an aftermarket HU, I can in the future; but given that not everyone is experiencing this issue, I'm thinking that issues *may* be able to be alleviated by doing some obvious stuff (e.g., make dang sure cables are shielded; make sure power cables are routed away from signal cables; make sure a good ground is obtained; and so on).

You will probably be fine. The tweeters are where the majority of the white noise is coming from and since they're ear level.....well....

Not gonna fuss over it right now. The only time I hear it is when the volume is zero.

Ah, yeah, my stereo is *NEVER* at zero. It's either off or around 40 or so. LOL

I have the hiss...but when I start my truck I don't hear it and I especially don't hear at a volume of 47. No a big deal IMO. You can get it to almost go away if you turn the gains on the amp down all the way. On my Kappa 5 is not audible until you turn the gains up.

Yeah thought about turning gains down but decided it didnt bother me enough. I'll use it as an excuse for a new HU later lol

Update: I've got 'the hiss.' :goingcrazy:

With that said, literally the only time I can hear it is if the truck is off with no music playing. My guess is that it has to do with the gain settings of the amp; I can futz around with that. Not too worried about it.

Lolololol we are hiss brothers. James told me if you're running stock HU its because that unit keeps Bluetooth up the entire time.

Well...now I think I'm *not* hearing it. So I went out there, jacked the passenger seat forward and adjusted the front/rear speaker gain on my amp. It did seem to eliminate most but not all of it.

HOWEVER....I realized that when I turn my truck on, the sound I'm hearing 'ramps up.' In other words, it doesn't just come on. About 5 seconds after I push the start button to turn on Accessory, I hear what sounds like a very small fan turn on and ramp up to speed....so I'm guessing there's a fan somewhere I wasn't aware of that's turning on and ramping up to speed.

He did say I could fiddle with the gains to try and take a lot of it out. I didn't wanna do that tho. I'll let him take care of it when I make a road trip over there. No idea wtf kinda fan you're talking about

I'm not worried about fiddling around with the gains (was an electronics tech in the Navy, so I understand this stuff for the most part).

And yeah, that's the thing - I have no idea what it is I'm hearing. I just meant to say that whereas normal noise sounds like white noise (like you used to hear real early in the morning on TVs before programming came on), this sounds more like a teensy fan (like a computer fan) that turns on and ramps up to speed.

In any event, literally the only time I hear it is when Accessory is on, and no sound is coming out of the head unit...which is almost never. I can easily live with it. LOL

Put your ear to the speaker and you swear it isn't coming out of there? Mine is largely coming out of the sail tweeters.

I had to go out and re-check.

Yes, I'm still a hiss brother (LOL), but at least for me, adjusting the gain on the front/rear channels on the amplifier minimizes that.

In addition to that, though, about 5 seconds after I turn the truck on (to Accessory), I hear that other 'ramping up' noise I spoke of. I think it's coming from outside the vehicle; if I turn the truck off and shut the door and then move to the left-front wheel wheel, I can hear it coming from the engine compartment.

I'm not too worried about it; it's obviously either something associated with the install turning on or off, or something else already installed on the truck that I just never noticed till today.

The HU hiss takes a couple seconds to kick in. It doesn’t ramp up but it isn’t there for the first...... 2-3 seconds after pressing the start button. Suppose it takes that long for the HU to reach its hissing stage of operation.

I know what you're saying, but there is indeed something else that ramps up, aka a fan of some sort. The hiss is coming from the speakers...this other noise appears to be in the engine compartment. Is entirely possible it's something normal that I'm only now noticing because I was hunting down the 'hiss.' LOL
