Just a simple issue which struck me as I recently assisted a young couple stranded with a flat tire and who were clueless regarding spare tire/jack location and any next steps etc...

However, what was interesting was their vehicle was a late model SUV with a temporary compact tire which was almost flat when it hit the ground.

Luckily this happened close to my home where I have a compressor and they followed me home, pressure tested the spare and it showed having 30lbs. and I topped off at 60lbs per owners manual/sidewall information.

My point for posting this this story is this had me thinking about my own vehicles and spare tire conditions so I checked (the one I must obey) vehicle and sure enough it was only inflated at 30lbs and could very well resulted with the same hardships.

Out of site and out of mind (complacence) could have very well put my wife (me) in the same unnecessary and stressful situation.

Lesson learned and spare tire pressure checks are now part of my routine and on my (pre-flight) maintenance checklist.

    Be safe out there!

    P-

Years ago I bought a new to me used Tundra. Driving home one evening the low tire pressure light came on ~ I scurried back home.
Checked all 4 tires on the ground ~ everything was good. Then it dawned on me ~ I have a spare ! Sure enough the pressure was way low.
I had no idea the spare tire was included with the TPMS.
