    hi,

long time 4Runner and now I am looking into getting a Tundra because the Tacoma is way over price. I am wanting to get a 4x4. Any issues with the Tundra I should know about? I hear the injector, coolant leak and sensor give it gets dirty. Any recalls?

The 5.7 CAM Tower issue is something to be aware of. You can see the thread in the Sticky section of the 3rd Gen Tundras section. Who knows how many are impacted as most people are too busy to ever open their hood and check...For the most part it looks like Toyota takes care of those that get their Tundras serviced at the dealer, sometimes even outside of warranty. This impacts the Tundra, Sequoia, Landcruiser, and LX 570. I never heard of someone being stranded by it, just oil "weeping out" from a poorly applied seal.

Thank you for the heads up on the CAM tower. I didn't hear about this one. I heard about the injector, coolant and possible sensor issue when it gets dirty.

what kind of MPG are you guys getting? If I make this as an overlanding rig, I am curious what to expect.

No problem. To clarify my post, you actually look for the issue on each side of the motor through the wheel well. Not under the hood. If you are buying used definitely something to check.

As for MPG you can get 18 mpg taking it very easy on highway (55-60) mph. My mixed city/highway commute typically gets me around 16, a little less in Winter and a little more in Summer. The 5.7 likes to drink the fuel. I am willing to give up MPG for reliability.
