Have a question.I have a 2019 Cement Tundra . Had check engine light on ,stated vapor leak and figured it was gas cap. Nope, took it to dealership since still under warranty. They told me a rodent chewed through the vent line and only way to fix was total replacement of tank at $1600+

I took it home and did a video scope to see the damage. I have attached the pics. I am in no means a mechanic but can do minor repairs, brakes, etc...
Is the dealership being truthful? I would think that could be replaced or repaired.
If I were to repair, what would you recommend? Flex tape? aviation fuel tank sealant? It is the vent line , not fuel line.
So sorry if this has been addressed!
Thanks so much in advance, your forum has given me so much great info with all my past tundras. Thanks!!!

I don’t see why you couldn’t replace that whole plastic line with rubber fuel hose. It appears that the plastic vent line is pushed onto barbs at both ends, both onto the top quick-connect fitting, and onto the 90 degree fitting into the tank. Have a close look and see if that’s the case.

I really do not know, jus do know with one simple claim I had with my insurer I am still paying way higher premiums for last 4+ years. with the extra spent could have repaired several times .

    Thanks!

I will do that , the dealership said it was attached to the tank and could not be removed... I really have a difficult time believing that this hose would be i replaceable

Another idea is to contact Roman on this site (Toyota of Cool Springs parts manager) to see if he can get you the line separately.

Happened to me and I used some JB Weld stuff with some hardened that you use with fiberglass. No issues at all sealed right up.

Hi, I just found out the Vapor Vent from the tank to the Charcoal Canister on my Tundra was ravaged by rodents. Damn rats. So I am curious what route did you (Kip999) go with your chewed up plastic vent and how is it working out for you?

Dorman makes a fuel line repair kit that might be helpful here... part #800-300. It’s pretty easy to splice or replace the hard plastic lines with this kit

That self vulcanizing tape would probably work. I would replace the plastic with a rubber fuel line way before spending 1600 bucks. Probably time to get a cat to hang with your dogs and eat rodents

As suggested, tape would be easiest but that hose is removable from the tank. When I swapped my 26 gallon tank to a 38, I used the vent hose from the 26 on the 38 because it was a little longer. It just pulls off with some effort.
