Hi all... I have a 2019 Tundra double cab that I have been building out for off grid truck camping. I've got most everything in there I want, got it weighted down, and put on new suspension to settle out the ride...OME BP-51 kit plus air bags. I went to the transfer station and got a total vehicle weight of 7620 lbs and a rear axle weight of 3880 lbs. To my surprise I'm already over the GVWR max of 7100 lb by about 7%, but the rear axle weight is below the 4150 lb GAWR rear.

As with anything else I'm sure there are safety factors on top of safety factors here but wanted to hear from you all on where you think the GVWR weak spots are that can be addressed. I already have weight trimming on my list, though my camp cargo is only 250 lbs so it's really an accumulation of the camper build-out.

I think it’s just a heavy truck overall. Not much weight reducing you can do. The GVWR might be very conservative, but people will say there’s no way to go over even by a pound. My truck weighs about 6800 without any passengers. I’ve seen tundras with campers on them. Those have to be over by at least 1k lbs if not more.

Nothing raises the GVWR. They are just heavy trucks with a light GVWR number if 7,200. I applaud you for being concerned of the total weight of your truck. 99% of tundra owners on FB will tell you the truck can handle it and just drive it, they won’t be paying the fine for being overweight which is the Responsibility Of the driver. When I was Enlightened On how heavy these trucks are, I sold my truck box for a tonneau cover and went to a CAT scale so I could buy a camper by hitch weight so stay legal with a tundra.

You might even need to lose more weight if you’re 7620 doesn’t include passengers, which also is added to your total weight.
