I know it's not ideal, but for simplicity could I use the leads at the factory sub location to connect to the high level inputs of my amp to get my signal that way? I've read grumblings about the factory amp not liking any modifications to the original design. Just don't want to fry anything...

This is how I did mine using an LC7i to gain inputs from the factory amp then adding a small 5 channel- it wasn’t to hard with assistance on wire color code from some members on here. Non Jbl

What type of amp do you already have? Mono, 4 or 5 channel? If you have one already kinda changes the answer

I've got a mono JL amp and a single Image Dynamics 10" in a box I built for behind the rear seat in my Tacoma. I tapped off the rear door speaker leads and ran it to the high level inputs for my sub signal, and just replaced the door speakers and it fit my needs pretty well. I was hoping to replicate it since it worked out for me on my last truck. So since there's already signal back there by was of the factory sub, I was hoping to use that for signal if possible. I realize it will be a compromised signal because of the factory amp, but simplicity sounds more appealing the older I get...

Gotcha. Do you already have a LOC? If not, and maybe others will chime in, but I’d go with a LC2i and try to dial it in as best as possible. Not breaking the bank either

But if I were in your shoes, I’d go with the dsr1 and purchase an additional 4 channel amp. Everything is plug and play (minus running the amp power wire). Sounds great too. And honestly, id be willing to bet a dsr1 swap is easier than trying to dial in a loc
