Decided to go to war over the (IMHO) excessive chrome on my Tundra. Picked up what I thought were color matched bulge and grill surround but they appear to be slightly off. If the pics convey the color...it looks slightly lighter or darker and even appears to have a green tint in some light. I am guessing that it is due to the truck that they came off of being a different age or having a different amount of sun exposure or make even painted in a different factory ?

In any case...I am torn. Should I leave it alone? Sometimes I like how it looks. Maybe I should paint them black?

This is what matte black would look like...

Oooooo - I like that! Might have a project today! I have some Canyon Black paint here...
Whose Matte black did you use? Is it a rattle can or body shop job?

TPO bumpershellz and yes, rattle can job.

I’ll have to get an empty out of the trash. It was rustoleum “something?” Matte finish.

Just prep well and take your time.

Very cool. Were you able to do that over the chrome or are the bumper caps replacements?

At first I said, leave it alone, but the more I looked at it, I could tell it doesn't match. and that got my OCD side in overdrive! :)

I can definitely tell the color difference from the picks. I’m not a fan of the black surround look. I would probably either leave it alone or see what it would cost to have it color matched to your truck.

Man that copper color is cool! I like the overall effect of blacking lots of stuff out. Where did you find the TUNDRA black inserts for the tailgate?

There are dozens for sale on Amazon. So many patterns and colors, raised or flat.
    I went with raised.

My MGM matched Grill appears slightly off as well, but then I look at it from a different angle and I'm not sure. At times I think its just the way the light hits the different angles that make it appear to be off..

It looks to me like the SR grille surround, which isn't MGM but could definitely be mistaken for it. I had both for a little bit. I ordered an SR (for its center insert because black not grey) to replace a MGM TRD Pro last year.

Fixed it! Thanks for giving me something to do today while in lockdown. Found a couple of cans of Satin Black 2x in my garage and went to work early this morning. I think it came out pretty good. Now to move on to getting rid of the rest of the chrome...IMG_2116.jpg

I gotta start getting rid of some of the chrome on mine. I think I’m gonna do the front and rear bumpers to start with the Bumpershellz and go from there.

Man, I wish I was that good with rattle cans. It always comes out uneven for me.

I have a bunch of stuff I want to paint, especially from the interior. I need some rattle can skills!
