Long time Chevy Silverado driver. "Dusty" however is showing her 20 years and miles and with a new Camper to tow we were looking for a newer one. However things have changed since 2001 and the Gas saving feature that turns off some of the cylinders (and occasionally causes catastrophic engine failure) had me concerned about the longevity of the newer Chevy's. I watched a lot of Youtube videos and this one mechanic was raving about the Toyota's I've long admired the Tacoma's but was not familiar with the Tundra. I stopped by a dealer to see a used one that had been traded in two days before. A test drive later and a little haggling and I was signing paperwork on an 08 with 125K on it, 4WD off road package 5.7L motor. While we were filling out forms someone else showed up to buy it, but they were literally 30 minutes too late. I know nothing about this truck accept that it's a toyota and every toyota Ive owned has been unkillable

Nice, you should be surprised by the towing from a 1/2 ton truck. Worry free ownership. Just watch out for the mod bug from this site.

Welcome from UT! To be honest, even after getting hit head on at 60+ MPH the engine was still running. I am sure I could have turned it over in the tow lot too, so yeah the 5.7 is definitely unkillable.

Thanks for the welcome!! Yea, on the mod bug thing. A cold air intake and bull bar showed up on our Amazon list and my wife was like, "What is this!?" I was like. "Just ignore that...." I had only even looked on car Guru's for a Tundra the day before after seeing this mechanics review on YouTube. In Birmingham there were very few units available. So Saturday morning we were in Huntsville, AL on an RV weekend to see my daughter who we'd not seen since the Virus thing started. We went to wal mart to pick up a few supplies and I thought, why don't we check car guru's in this area to see if they have any of those trucks we could look at. So it was just sort of a freak thing that we found something that fit all our needs that was cheap enough for us to write a check for and not take out a loan, which made my wife really happy. The truck did have two issues, one the headlights were cloudy, but this dealer always clears those on all used cars but in this case they had just taken it in, second the pig tail was damaged so I got them to comp a new one as part of the deal. With the dealer only operating 3 days a week we won't be actually taking possession of it until this coming Saturday but it's been paid for and I have the paperwork and one set of the keys. So I'll get to see my daughter again and show her the new truck.

Sounds like it fell in your lap right when you needed it. I think you will enjoy that truck for another 20 years IF not more. My truck is 18 years old at the moment.
