At what point does a tire look big enough on a Tundra?

    haha....

My Tundra came with a 275/55/20 tire (~32"). That tire definitely looked small on the truck. So, I went up to a 295/55/20 tire (~33"). That tire did look larger and better filled the wheel wells. But after a while, it still looked like it was too small; especially on the rear. So, I went up to a 295/60/20 tire (~34"). Now, I know that a 34" tire is getting up there in size and I had to trim a little to get a 34" tire to clear without rubbing. So, for the design of the truck, it is getting to be a large tire. But now I look at the rear of the truck and it still seams like I could go larger. But if I went with 35's, I would have to do even more work to prevent rubbing.

Maybe it is the proportion of lift to tire size? with the 32" tire, I was at stock height; with the 33" tire, I had 1.5" of lift; and now with the 34" tire, I am at 3" of lift. Maybe the proper proportional look is 33" for stock, 34" for 1.5" of lift, and 35" for 3" of lift.

At what tire size on a Tundra do you say, "damn.... that's a big tire!" ?

hah... will we ever be satisfied with our trucks? :p:laugh:

Depends on what your using your truck for . I like 33 it’s a good all around tire and you don’t loose to much gearing. Now my son wants a 6-8 lift and skateboard wheels -44 offset and tires lol( I’m old). But back in the early 80s we all thought when you had 44inch tires on your truck you could get any cooler!!!!
So 44 super swampers are my vote

I did a 295/70-18 an in hindsight wish I went full 35/12.50.IMO probably best tire to truck ratio on 3" lift.. My buddy has 33s on his, same height an it still looks good though. One things for sure I have always felt the Tundra needed more tire and or more offset from the factory. It's kind of a chunky looking truck,an factory just looks like it's on roller skates.. love they way it looks otherwise...

i am not saying that going from one tire size to another gave me that much of a lift. i am saying that when i had the 32" tires, the suspension was stock. when i had the 33" tires, the suspension had a 1.5" lift (5100's). and now that i have the 34" tires, i have a 3" suspension lift (Icon Stage 2). i was talking about the proportion of tire size to the amount of suspension lift.

Look at these from an older post. His truck is on stock suspension in these photos. 275/70/18 looks great. I think another factor on "big enough" is the sidewall to wheel ratio, rather than just tire to lift/wheelwell. I think you might think smaller tires were adequate on a smaller wheel at the same lift level. My $0.02.

that's true... more sidewall can make a tire look larger.

^^This. I think the issue is not as much the tire size but our 20" wheel size. I have 275/65/20 (~34.6") and they look okay, but anything smaller would be too small. A 33" tire on a 18" wheel looks okay.

Everything smaller than 37 just looks small in proportion to the wheel well. I’m running similar setup as you, and if I change got to go 37. Ha I said if. Damn truck hurts my wallet.

Imo its all about the sidewall as others have said. Get some 17's with a tall sidewall tire and it fills out the fenders very differently. Personally i don't think 20's belong on these trucks.

Whatever size it is, as long as your wife likes it, then that's good enough.

Your wife will always say that though.... you've got to ask her sancho if it really is big enough and then you'll know.
