TPMS Sensor Question

I replaced my OEM rims with a set of TRD rims I picked up today. My tire pressure indicator light is now on. Can I reset it or do I need the truck to be synced with them.

 

You need to sync them. I used the Carista app to do it. Cheapest way to do it. The dealer will charge you a LOT.

Love when i answer my own questions LOL. There is a reset button at the bottom of the dash to the right of the steering wheel. It has the tire TPMS icon next to it. I turned the ignition key to the "On" position and held the button in for about 5 seconds. The light in the instrument panel was blinking, I left if blinking and came back about 6 minutes later and the light was off. I'm assuming the computer re-learned itself.

 

the reset button is only to reset the programmed sensors. Even so, you have to drive around after doing a reset via the button. Letting it sit will not do a relearn. You still need to program the new sensors to be recognized

 

Did they reuse the old sensors? If they reused the sensors reprogramming isn't necessary. If you had new sensors installed there is a sensor ID number on the sensor that you copy down then using Techstream program them to the trucks tpms ecu.

 

With that being said, I had to run out last night only for a 6 minute drive shut the truck off and came back and the indicator light is still off. I'll post my result when I drive it more. As far as the sensors, they are the sensors that came with the TRD rims. I did not replace or change them, I just replaced my tires and rims with the TRDs.

 

Do you still have the old tires in the back of the truck?

Then the new sensor had to be programmed to the truck when the install was done.

 

What model year are the TRD sensors and rims?

 

Or just IGNORE any and all TPMS idiot lights. There is NOTHING wrong with being old school and checking your tire air pressure with a hand gauge every couple of weeks (or every weekend if you're super anal).

Another problem with getting different than original sensors put on your new 19-2020 truck is that you get constant service alerts through the app on your phone. Every time you start your vehicle....Light is on/flashing constantly.

I swapped my wheels/tire setup from my 2019 to my 2020 and have this going on. The dealer forgot to reprogram my new sensors.

I dropped by another dealer out of state to see if they could take care of it and they were going to charge me $70. Nope. Although my original dealer said they would reimburse me, I am just going to have to take it back to them to have them reprogram the 2019 sensors to my 2020.

If you know the ID numbers you can download Techstream and program them in yourself. The IDs are written on the back of the sensors.

Well, the indicator light came on again so I headed over to my tire guy and he read the serial nos. and downloaded them to the truck. Problem solved! Thanks guys!

 

I ended up going back to the Toyota dealership to get mine reprogrammed. But the 2019 sensors would not register with the 2020 for some reason, they swapped new ones in for me. They should’ve both been compatible, But they couldn’t get them to read initially. Now everything is fine/no indicator light/no status alert on the app

 

Mine were a little different, the TRD wheels I now have came off of a 2016. Not that much of a difference. The PO upgraded to 2020 20" TRD wheels.

 

What are the biggest tires I can run on this rims?
