I was wanting to get some input on what speakers to run in the front doors and rear doors of my crewmax. Components all the way around? Or 2 way coax in the rear and components in the front. Pros and cons of each? Someone help this is my first real stereo upgrade.

Thanks bud i appreciate it. I couldn’t figure out why the “other” Audio guys had coax for the rear and components up front. Wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something. James at tech 12 has helped me through a few things but don’t want to overstay my welcome on what I am sure to him as daunting questions . Even though not 1 time has he ever made me feel that way just trying to see it from his eyes... thanks again.

    I have coaxial rears for a couple reasons;
    1. I have a DC and there are no tweeters in the rear doors.
    2. 99% of the time in my truck is just me alone and the rear door speakers are merely fill for the front door components.

James at tech 12 was very helpful to me, even in the few months we emailed before I bought anything from him..

If I was starting from scratch, I would buy one of his package deals and install it..

6x9 components in the front and 6.5 components in the rear. 6x9 will give you more mid bass. Your wallet will decide the rest for you.

Meaning - you can spend sub 500 all the way to 4000. Are you running an amplifier or a sub? Stereo systems can be extremely complex or very simple. It all depends on how important it is to you.

If You are new to audio - go to a local shop and listen to some speakers. Yelp can assist you in finding a shop with good reviews.

Be sure to set aside at least 150 to 200 for sound deadening material. You will need it.

And two sets of these- Metra speaker adapters - front and rear

And these- Roadkill foam speaker rings - must have

Feel free to PM me with any further questions. You really need to set a budget first.

No components in the rear doors due to having to cut a hole. Some guys will but I just didn’t want a tweeter in the rear bad enough to drill a hole through my door panel. In the front you can just upgrade the sail panel. Not so much in rear.
I bought the hertz package from James through this site and couldn’t be happier.

Cost is another reason. Components can be more expensive. But if cost isn't a factor and you have the tweeters already in the back door (I see you have a limited but I don't know the limited that well), then components ar the way to go. I echo everyone about James. I have an email thread of back and forths between James and I that counts over 48 emails. He set me up with some Hertz Components and they are AMAZING!

So did you just upgrade the doors? Or have you Gone full on? My plan although it will probably get thrown out the window as far as one piece at a time, but my plan is to replace all the doors with components, and then start to attack the whole jbl pain in the dick process of adding amplifiers and upgrading sub and enclosure . And yes my limited with the JBL has door tweeters in all the doors

As soon as you do the speakers, you need to think long and hard if you are going to keep the factory head unit.
You are going to have to put around $250-300 in a sound processor to keep the factory head unit.
That can go towards a head unit.

I would seriously contact James over at tech12volts and speak with him about your plans and budget.

He will provide you with options and how it all fits with the JBL system. Even if you intend to do it in stages, he can still provide a list of options for you.

    Stock, for now
Im planning on doing components on the front and coax on the rear. The reason is that I do not want the rear tweeter to be so close to my ear. Also if you are the driver, the front is the most important. The rears are for fill. Definitely subwoofers. Planning on doing double shallows 10”. DSR1 is a must to start with good quality sound. I do not have a JBL. I still do not know how to wire everything due to the voice commands. I still want them only on the 3 dash speakers. Trying to find a guru on Tundras to answer me this question.
