Does the invoice support their price claim?

I paid $40,140 out the door after taxes, tags, etc on a brand new sr5 in August with the upgrade package. You can definitely do better. I would offer $40k out the door.

Invoice price is b"not "cost", it includes at least 2k in dealer holdbacks.

CM SR5 4x4 in Alabama I passed on at $36,790+ Fees and tax. It had no options. The distributor makes a difference Toyota runs different deals, one could be 3k rebate and another 1k rebate.

I thanked the salesperson and never got a response from the other dealer that I offered $37,500 so I moved on to a couple of other dealers. Just think its strange that the one dealer didn't want to move a truck that has been on there lot since the first of the year.

i tell ya. In Early Feb I bought my Pro and it was 47.8k. Like I said I was pricing multiple trucks at this dealership and the first offer I got for a 50k limited was 42k. The SR5 with TRD sport package was ridiculous high as they leveled it and put nice rims on it. They did say they don’t deal on SR5 too much because of the demand here for them. I was shocked at the limited offer and really shocked I worked that much off a pro.

Counter. I paid $41700 for the same truck, but with TRD Off-Road package, bedliner, blackout package, SR5 convenience, and a few other things, plus lifetime engine warranty and such. If he's 380 miles away he'd better be sweetening that deal.

I did counter with $37,500 and did not hear back as of yet. Might have been insulted or did not like that I wanted to total price and not monthly payments. I will still look at other dealerships but might wait to see if Toyota can do better than $2750 for a rebate on May 4. The good thing is I am in no rush. I do worry about the quality of the new trucks when they finally start coming off the line...When it starts up again.

A few points in negotiating a car deal: first, never be afraid to walk away. Also, the concept of negotiating on “invoice price” is a relic from the past. Search Google but you’ll find its not really meaningful these days.

Get the price YOU want to pay, not the price they want to sell it to you for...subtle point but it’s YOUR money.

With the current state of affairs most dealers really can’t be playing games. Yes, they have to make money and you have to get a fair deal, right now they need to sell cars more than you need to buy, use that to your advantage.

Good luck and be patient - there are and will continue to be good deals, but on your schedule.

Edit: adding link to this thread with some good Info:

I have been pricing both TRD Sports and Limited and today I an finally getting some dealers who seem to want to sell. The Black Limited is close to $6000 off of MSRP and is priced at $42689 and I have one TRD Sport that going for $38671. I need a break down on the Sport because I am not sure if the rebate is included in his price.

glowblue I read that thread and trying to use some of the info. The way things are going I might just wait to see if Toyota bumps up the rebate and includes a good APR.

If you’re not in a rush - I think time is on your side for some deals and maybe better rebates. When the auto industry pulled back in 2008-2009 there were some really good deals. This is worse right now I think.

... because that is a horrible number. 37-38 for that truck is a standard price before all this ‘rona dilemma. If you are a cash buyer, you decide the price they will sell it for.

Make sure when comparing dealers offers that you are comparing the right numbers - like destination charge ($1495 on the sticker usually) and doc fees. The dealer I got my Tundra from tried to pull a stunt where we had agreed on a price and then they tried to add the destination charge back in. I wouldn’t let that fly and called them on it.

I bought my 2020 SR5 TSS Crewmax back in November 2019. The dealer price was $48,500 (MSRP was $47,000). I talked them down to $38,600 before TTL etc. I echo what was mentioned above, we are in uncertain times and the dealers should be coming down quite a bit more for you. I wish you the best!

    That's beast deal I've seen.

    $48,500/$38,600=.795 of sticker price.

I paid .834 and thought I got a good deal. Mine isn't TSS, and there is an extra rebate on those I think though.

Also to OP, be careful with a subsidized interest rate in lieu of a cash rebate.

There is another post on here of a brand new tundra getting totaled on the interstate, if he had taken a subsidized interest rate in lieu of a cash rebate he'd would have been screwed.
Also some trade a truck in or payoff a low interest loan early negating the savings while forefiting the additional rebate.

    • Premium Audio with Dynamic Navigation
    • TRD Off-Road Package (SR5 Grade)
    • SR5 Upgrade Package
    • Convenience Package

I was OTD TTL included at $43,042 with the special @ 1.9% on a Limited 4x4 Crewmax. I did buy on the 31st of March, end of the month, end of the quarter, at the beginning of the shutdown. I made that offer on the 27th and they called me the morning of the 31st and said they'd do it. Disclaimer: my truck was a demo with 3200 miles, I also know the GM of the dealership personally and purchased directly with him and not a salesman.

Getting close, my number was MSRP*.83+TT&L. Depends on tax and fees in your area. Some dealers said no, and one said yes.

Although they stopped the assembly line, so supply will correct itself to match near 0 demand.
