makes you wonder how much of our "advanced" civilization would be here in 5000 years, or even 10000 plus.

Maybe it’s like everything going in full circle . Maybe humans did do all this before a nuclear war and we’re just starting all over again .

I also like this, but man I still feel like there would be so much more in the way of artifacts dating from 12000 years ago or so for constructions like these.

All jokes aside, Peru is full of insanity this way. If anybody is in good health and wants to see some real life Indiana Jones stuff, go spend two weeks in Peru.

I will warn you, health is important there. Cusco altitude is not to be underestimated, it made me feel like I would have a heart attack any minute you can'teven escape the feeling in your sleep. Plan on spending a few days being miserable in your hotel room if you stay to see Cusco, drink coca cola and acclimate, then you'll be fine.

This stone is the pride of Cusco

Once you acclimate to Cusco head down to Machu Picchu and you'll feel like Superman

Once we were classified as "Mostly Harmless" and removed from the tourist guides, even the teasers lost interest in us.

Stone work is the second oldest. The oldest is farming, right?

Here's my explanation, human history on this planet is much older than current historians or archeologists are willing to admit or are willing to fight the established, accepted norms to expose. Personally I think the human race has gone through several cataclysmic events over the past several tens of thousands of years destroying advanced civilizations and bottlenecking the population with only oral traditions being passed through these events. Religions in the last thousands of years of have done much to suppress the true history as it didn't/doesn't fit their story of human creation. How many of our buildings or structures would last thousands of years let alone tens of thousands of years. Only large stone structures in arid environments.

I like this for persepctive on time scales:

When Alexander The Great laid eyes on the pyramids, they were older to him than he is to us.

Much has been lost to history, and much of what we "know" is speculation at best.

Yeah there's that. Can't imagine what was lost in the great Library of Alexandria. Might have had detail plans on how the Pyrimids were built, a note in Platos writings that he was just yankin' our chain about Atlantis.
