275 vs 295 tires r18...... is the upgrade in size worth it?

I am currently running 275/65/r18 tires. I have a few questions..

I have a 2.5" front leveling kit so fitting won't be an issue. ( I think )

Will 295/70/r18 tires fit my stock 18" wheels? or do they have to be 295/65/r18

I am in the position where I can swap for basically $150 bucks.... Anyone have photos of them running either? Should I do it/ Is it worth it?

 

a 34" tire will definitely fit with a 2.5" lift and 295's look so much better (you may have to do a small bit of trimming). my question would be on the size of the wheel. What is the width and the offset? if it is a high offset (+60mm), then you might have trouble with the tire clearing the upper control arm.

This is always a subjective issue to each individual. If you want to run a bigger tire for off roading or even just for looks, that's completely up to you. My personal opinion is that the smaller stock sized tires makes our tundras look like they've worked out the upper body, but skipped leg day.

 

yea thats why I want to get the 295's i totally agree. Especially because the wheel well is so damn big.

To answer your question netmonkey here are my wheel specs....

18" wheels - Width: 8", Offset: +60mm, Backspacing: 6.85", Hub Bore Diameter = 110mm]

Would probably go with 1.5" spidertrax spacers as well.....

 

I put 295/70R18 on my TRD Off Road wheels using 1" Bora spacers. The 2" level I have wasn't enough to get rid of the rubbing, but you might be ok. If not, it'll be minor trimming of plastics.

It'll depend on what tire you go with, but the larger tire and more aggressive sidewall on my Falken AT3w look way better than the factory Michelins.

 

I've got 295-70-18 on the stock steel rims. With a 1.25" spacer and 5100s on the top setting. I got them because I wanted a wider tire for driving on the beach. I've only heard a rub 3 or 4 times, couldn't duplicate it nor see a mark.

 

yeah.... if you use wheel spacers, then you can totally fit the 295's

 

When I installed my first lift (2" total w/ 5100's on the middle and 1 cb shim on each side) I ran 295x65x18 on a +25 wheel (+60 w/ 1.25" spacers is about a +28.25 wheel). I had minimal rubbing and only had to remove the front mud flap and push the front liner forward about an inch. 295x70's might have fit but I may have needed a CMC.

The top is 2" lift with 295x65's and the bottom is how the truck is now - 3/1 with 35x12.5s:

Here is a set of 295/70R18s I put on my truck with a 3" lift.

 

Would I need spacers to get my stock 18" wheels to fit a 295/70R18 tire? I am getting my 3"/2" lift installed tomorrow and still trying to figure out what tires to get. I think it's difficult to decide because no one has kept their stock wheels. Awesome truck by the way!

 

Long and skinny or long and girthy.....which would you prefer?

 

I dont know what the offset is on the stock 18" wheels off the top of my head, especially since I was sold 20" wheels here in TX on my TSS Off Road package.

Try going to to see what the change would be for your truck.

I did have some minor rubbing in reverse, but was fixed by removing the mud flaps and a set of bumper shims.

 

295/70's look like they should have come on our trucks from the factory...I vote yes. They look excellent on stock wheels too, but I'd guess due to factory offset you might get some rubbing on chassis components.

Thanks for this link! I looked on Google at it says my factory wheels are +60mm offset. Looks like I would need a 1.25" spacer to avoid hitting the uca. I don't know if I should consider those or not.

I've got 1" Bora spacers with 295/70R18 on OEM TRD Off Road wheels. There is plenty of room between the tire and UCA, and I think I would actually be able to clear without if I wanted to.

 

Any clearance issue with cab mount?

 

295/70's on stock wheels. Ford is my friends.

 

Nope. Just had to work the bumper plastics forward and cut some of the mud flap out.

I’d say the upgrade in size is worth it from a looks perspective, but a little more difficult to quantify as far as size benefit itself. I feel like I upgraded significantly as far as the tire performance itself, going from crappy stock BFG AT’s to Nitto Ridge Grapplers.
