4.7 horsepower 2005 vs 2006

Why was there a horsepower drop in the 2006 4.7L (271 hp) compared to 2005 4.7 (282 hp) as shown in Edmunds engine specs?

 

No actual HP drop, just a difference in how they calculated it. They are the same exact drivetrain.

What extras does the 06 Darrell Waltrip Edition have?

The fear I have is that if Toyota wasn't calibrating horsepower correctly in 05, what does that mean for my 03? Do I have 234HP?

 

Not sure exactly but there was no VVT-i in the '03 4.7 so yeah lower output compared to later years....

 

Dude! I did have an 06 and it was way underpowered!!

 

Don't forget ALL the extra torque!

"Power ratings are down slightly for '06, to 263 horsepower and 323 pound-feet of torque, but that's only because the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has instituted new test procedures that tend to deliver more conservative numbers. The engine itself, and its performance, have not changed. The 2006 GX 470 is every bit as powerful as the 2005 model."

I suspect you'd see a simlar drop with other manufacturers using the same power plant from '05 to '06.

What components made the 2005 have more hp and torque, I have an ‘04 and I wish I had that much more hp, I have put a K&n 77 series cold air intake and a vertex chip, and a magnaflow dual exhaust!! While it seems to give more power and torque, my mpg is suffering. Probably because more air in and more air out means more fuel!! Right??

 

My 2002 4.7 V8 is rated at 245 HP and 315 Foot Pounds of Torque. The truck has plenty of very smooth power. According to the tach on the dashboard, it spends most of its life at 1600 - 1800 RPM and gets a very solid 15 MPG. The engine has 273,000 miles on the clock.

My previous ride was a 1983 Ford E150 Club Wagon with the 300 CID inline 6 cylinder and a 4 speed manual transmission with overdrive and a 3.0 rear axle. This engine was 121 HP and 240 ft-lbs of torque. I developed most of its torque at low RPM. I once drove it from Louisville, KY to Disney World in Florida and back which was about 2,400 miles. Using cruise control and keeping the speed around 55 mph, I averaged over 20 MPG with the air conditioner on. The engine had 331,000 miles on it when I gave the van to Goodwill.

Compared to the 300 CID I-6 van, my 4.7 V8 Tundra is a rocket ship.

The FSM I use is from the 2003 year, but backdates into the 2002. It states a few differences:

2002 245hp

2003 240hp (due to the TWC which is a three way catalytic convertor)

2005-06 Tundra Double Cab Ridgeline Models have 40 extra horses because they weigh 500 pounds extra and have those air intake thingies that like to clog up and break and make limp modes.

 

Extra weight is not the reason, That is wrong.

All 05' and up tundras and 4runners have VVTi, that is where the 40 horses and 40 extra pounds of torque, All of them, not because the vehicle weights 500 pounds more, the 4runner sure doesn't weight 500 more, its 500 less if anything, and yeah they are Fast!

 

Please prove me wrong by doing your research and posting the weights side by side for the AC and DC. Please post pictures of the Specs Sheets. I do realize (on purpose) I weighed the RidgeLine by an extra 100lbs.

Yes you are correct in the VVti is the reason for extra horses. I should have said ‘but’ instead of ‘because’. Thank you for the correction.

 

How much does your AC weigh?

 

Mine was 5082 at the dump yesterday.

 

Full tank of gas, bigger than factory tires and wheels. Bull bar with lights. Toolbox with some goodies in it.

 

and my 185# self

 

My DC weighs in at 5640 with full tank, full skids/sliders and 34’s. Me not included. Bed completely empty.

 

Cursory search of the hive mind reveals the 2006 VVTi AC SR5 V8 weighing in at 4510 (likely dry weight). The 2000 non-VVTi AC SR5 V8 weighing in at 4518. Virtually identical. The 06 actually lost 8lbs.

 

The 2006 VVTi SR5 V8 DC weighs in at 4965. The weight obviously due to the larger dimensions and the materials associated with it.
So 455 pounds more for a DC. What were we trying to demonstrate with these numbers again?
