Need to find 2nd gen. (Same thing) but the 3rd gen doesn’t have the Toyota or tundra badge since the Toyota is in the tailgate handle and tundra is stamped into the tailgate

Speaking of audio, anyone have experience with the under seat jbl subs? Thinking about one to get a little more low end. Also thinking about a small amp for the 2 door speakers

 

I ordered this metal tundra badge and believe it’s for the 3rd gen.

 

Swinger! Latch is bolted on, only broke one tap going into the 3/16 plate. I couldn’t find 1/4x20s that I thought I had for the license plate, I’ve been riding dirty for about a month with no plate displayed in the back, what’s another morning. All I need to do I wire up plate lights, and tap/mount the delrin slide pads and maybe weld or mount a close stop pin. Also waiting to see how much more it sags with another 5gal on it, my mom is bringing my 2-2.5gal cans tomorrow.

 

Cool front plate, might need to get one for my mom. She’s got a custom vanity plate that basically reads “delta flyer”

 

That's awesome! When I was trying to find these trek plates I found very few I liked. Been a while though, and a few deer, turkey, opossum, and various other smaller woodland critters. It's still on there though!

This is what came with my backup camera to tap into the backup wires. Very easy to use. Those posi products are supposed to be great too.

 

I've used them for light duty stuff. I have a gauge in my car that I used those to supply voltage for the dimmer, pretty easy.

My brothers truck had an electrical problem that may have been because of those. His truck came with those steps that hide when the doors are closed. The installers used t-taps for the power source for the motors. Those caught fire a decade later. Could have been some other install error but we rerouted the power wires proper after that.

 

What would be a better method?

 

I think they are fine for light duty, like a signal voltage or something small. In his case the motors for his steps draw decent current. We found an accessory source and ran direct to it with a fuse.

I was planning on running some led strip lights underneath my bed rails, and tying into cargo light in the high mount. Seems light duty to me. Working nights I think this would be a choice upgrade.

Also planning on replacing my high mount with OEM unit at some point. Any advice on that would be super nice.

Any thoughts from you guys?

 

Anything you use, be it T-taps, tap splices, twisting together, or soldering will work. But any of these methods must be done well to work well. Some have advantages in durability and contact area, some are easier to do and take less time. Soldering is likely best, but takes the most time, prep and skill. The tap splice variety of connection is probably next best as it makes a durable solid connection when done properly and is very easy to do. I could not recommend just twisting the wires together and applying electrical tape, but it can work. Those LED strips have low wattage diodes, but lots of them and can draw current similar to regular incandescent bulbs. The factory wiring could handle a couple of LED strips added to them, but I would convert the High mount bed light to LED's while your at it. Tap splices should be fine in this application if the connection is not being stressed and is weather protected. I wouldn't hesitate to do it that way. A properly done connection of any kind won't cause a fire, but a short will. Make sure whatever connection type you use is secure and insulated to prevent a short to ground situation. Would love to do this to mine and put some LED's in my toolbox as well.

 

All 3 bulbs in my high mount are already LED. The only reason I am considering replacing it is years of incandescent bulbs have melted the reflector plate. I'm thinking it would be much brighter with one that's unburnt. Lol

I don't know if I could trace the cargo wires back closer to the cab fuse box if that's even where they go. I have been thinkering on how I would run the wires to the bed.

Planned on pulling headliner to clean it some time or another. This might be a good project to investigate, and do then.

I can solder pretty well, and considered it. I'm just not sure if I would have any slack to remove the wiring, and take inside to the house. Windy conditions blow for soldering. I have an el cheapo weller plug in unit. Considering buying a good one. Seems I am soldering more often now with all my projects.

 

Removed front and rear bumper today. I will be dropping the truck off at the shop to get my new Costal off-road bumpers fabricated and installed.

The t taps are known to possibly work loose over time. Posi taps are better. But I personally try to run from new wires. (Be surprised how man I unused junctions are in Toyota’s
