Local shop got me hooked up real fast with this package.
Tint, 2.5 rough country lift (will upgrade in future), wheels tires and aligned.

Its definitely an amalgamation of a few styles at the moment. Figuring out where to take it
But my next steps are under the truck, where I'll be changing and pressing my various bushings this summer. With a nice powder coat on the control arms because life is short.

Then, building a 2 level work space in the camper area. Got some ideas for drawers.

What’s the level of your front tint?

 

Sir I believe they threw a 15 percent on there for me, perhaps 20. I genuinely didn't ask before I left. I need to go check the papers

 

The next step, since we are all freaking quarantined. The diff drop kit is on the way, and the steering rack bushings. Gonna have some fun on my back with big pry bars in the next few weeks. Love that shit

Only the freakiest porn for this Yota. Spent the past few days in the camper shell area, running loom for the pod LED lights and 3rd brake light. Also need to get photos of the Sequoia console I ripped out and installed in my AC 2wd. Feels good to have all that room, deep cavities....heh

 

Time to update with some new photos. I may as well use this as an ongoing build thread. Here goes.

Pictured below- day one engine bay. Unmolested. Previous owner had done routine maintenance, it appears, including a previous timing belt service which is nice, and full trans flush. Enjoying the easy access available on this 2uz platform.

 

Day one interior, with the old, smaller style console. That had to go right away, into the garage loft. I couldn't use the empty space on the hump, so I knew I needed a Sequoia console. Easy enough to clean.

Now the interior has the big boy console, a few more switches, BT adapter, backup cam monitor, new speakers and tweeters, etc.

 

I was able to convert the cig lighters from the 2 different consoles with a little plug wiring magic.

 

Upgrading the speakers. Cheap replacements for now. Adapter plates and different screws sizes necessary.

 

Painting the side trim, ,fender linings and trim, underplate, other pieces from old chrome to matte black.

 

I was in Austin TX for work. Found a camper shell with no back window, that actually fit, for 200 bucks. Definitely threw it on the back of a rental truck and drove it 12 hours home to KC. mad. lol. Just mad drive.







Trying my best in above photo, to take PLexi from lowes and some simple door frame, bend, silicone, etc. Hinge. New 3rd brake light. Work in progress. It does lock, with 2 master locks. Good enough for today.

 

You all already seen the wheels and tires. Loving them thus far. New sway bar bushings and links helped a lot. Had to cut those end links off, as they did seize. Of course they did.

 

Last thread- looming and wrapping, the backup camera lines that run along the frame, and the 2 new LED pod lighting lines.

Above photo. Fully wrapped loom, with the 3 additional lines breaking 3 ways. Hopefully waterproof. Quick disconnects for all lighting.



Loving the underhood lights.



Making sure all connections make sense, behind the drivers kick panel, the next time I break in there and open it up. Since, we have quite a few wires now. Using premade jumpers and labels which helps. Oznium LED switches.

Finally, a photo of the camper shell lights from the outside. Since they are plug/play, I'm going to add another 4 next month.

 

What LEDs are you using for the cap and under-hood?

 

Hold plz. One of those cheap Amazon suppliers. But the modular plug and play style, rocks.

How did you mount the console seeing that the brackets don’t line up right?

 

Well, I was able to use big guage, small length spare bolts to mount the front of Sequoia console, to existing Tundra bracket holes protruding from under dash.
Next, I cut some aluminum and made a bracket, to mount on my trucks body, exposed at carpet. Finally, drilled into size of console hidden by seats.

So this weekend was another round of projects. This time, getting things back to stockish. AS much as a driveway wrencher can. Let's see what we did!

 

First, was struggling with the steering rack. Now, my truck is 20 years old. and a 2wd. But i did learn that, to make my rack move and line up, a combination of lifting/lowering my heavy wheels and tires had to occur. Next time, I would take the wheels off.
Soaking the nuts and bolts in PB overnight before working helped.

Pretty hard to get my standard car jack to lift the Tundra after 2.5 inches up and big tires. Gonna need to remedy that soon. For now, wood spacers work decent always be careful.

Energy suspension kit


Now, once youve managed to extract the bolts (that 19MM vertical middle bolt was a real pain given the top side access limitations). the rack will move a little. Not a lot. At this point my wheels were on the ground, so I started using the jack to lift one side at a time and pry, to get space so I could begin to press in the new bushings. Below, finally got the rack free.

 

So then it was time to press the new bushings. They slide in easy enough. Everyone has a different way. I will say. that you def want to do the long bolt, drivers side first. I did not. It screwed me. That bushing requires the most space, from steering rack play, that you can obtain. So starting with the center bolt, is not a good choice. I had to remove and redo "

Here is my homemade 4 inch C clamp method of center rack bushing press.



Once again, I would NOT start with center bolt, in retrospect. To each their own. I found it was easier to work drivers bolt, then passenger shackle bushing, then center. I had to lift each side over and over to help line up the rack, perhaps that was due to weight of wheels and tires. idk. it worked lol.



All the bolts and bushings replaced and lined up. Took a while, but it got done. Learned a lot! Spoke with my alignment tech who did indicate that as long as, wheels and steering wheel are straight, perhaps I would not need another alignment. Drives fine. Just keep an eye on it.

 

Alright! Next project was to make a bumper bracket. When I was getting my lift done, removed front bumper for the sake of fitting the best tires I could get. Decided to replace front bumper, just moving out a bit. Like a front lip on a pouty child. For now, that will do.

Above- Using some 1/16 steel plate from Dad, to mock up 2 pieces of 9x3inch adapter plates. Easy enough. 1/2 inch holes with a step bit.



Notice how the 3rd hold forward is now for a thru bolt. Easy enough. And the bumper still lines with 2 vertical posts. You arent going to get the side bolts mounted but. It seems very secure.
