My Tundra runs flawlessly but I heard about the Tow/Haul mode acting like a Sport mode. Ain’t that a fact! Pressing the Tow/Haul button on my dash lights up this engine like a lizard running through a wildfire! So much more power and torque, wicked throttle response and sound. I don’t know what the mode does but I suspect to makes ECU changes to the AIT, Valve timing and fuel map.

That's weird, never even tried when not towing. hard enough to remember when I am, HAHA.

Would there be any negative affects on doing this other than some fun spirited MPG reductions?

It will hold gear annoyingly long if run all the way through it and will engine brake going down hill until you give it some gas. Other than that, I haven’t noticed any negative effects the few times I’ve used it unloaded / not towing.

I have the 2016 1794 and have been using tow/haul until about two weeks ago when I got a Pedal Commander. I've got it set to City +2 and have the desired power/throttle response the truck should have come with. One huge bonus is that my displayed mileage has gone up from 12.8mpg to 13.5mpg (I have not calculated it manually though, either before or since the Pedal Commander). I'm running 37" tires with a 7" lift to boot.

    YMMV

I slap it in towhaul mode off the line sometimes when the kids ask me to....or rather when I ask them if I should

I hadn’t considered the longer hold times for gears or the increased engine braking but they do make sense.

since the Tundra was designed to use this mode during towing and hauling heavy loads for unlimited miles, I can’t imagine any adverse results except lower fuel mileage

All it does is ramp up the TPS, shift points and TCC strategy. I have yet to log any noticable difference in timing.

Someone needs to try 0 to 60 with tow haul mode on and off to see if there’s a difference in engine output.

I'll see if I can find my logs, if memory serves me right - no different. I'll see what I can dig back up.

IMO, at least this platform, WOT is WOT - regardless of normal or tow/haul mode. Engine goes into open loop and does its things.

Many passes at the local dragway, NO difference in the 1/4 mile times with tow/haul mode

Wouldn't expect there to be, personally.

I was told Tundra has cylinder activation thing and 2 more cylinders activate (from v8 to v10) when in tow-haul mode. That's why you fell the power. No?
it can also compete with Ford v10. :D
