Tundra's are like Jeep's, they hold their value. It's one of the few vehicles I feel you get a "return on investment" in a purchase that is a depreciating asset, so technically it's not an investment. I bought my 2015 Jeep Wrangler brand new for $34,825 + tax license etc. I think it ended up being around $37,000 OTD. I just sold it for $33,000. Do yourself the favor and buy a new Tundra which will hold its value just like the 2016 you are looking at. Plus all the other great reasons listed above to buy a new Tundra. In addition, be patient and don't get sold by a dealer. Try to Costco, USAA, and other car buying programs out there to give yourself negotiating and buying power. Since you are looking at a 2016, why not a left over brand new 2019? Yes it will be a needle in a hay stack to find but I bet you can get a great deal on it. I bought my 2019 TRD Sport with Entune, NAV, and a few other bells and whistles at the end of last year for around $41,000 OTD. Just my .10 cents.

The 16 won't have the new headlights will it? The new one will. Don't know if some one has mentioned yet

I bought a very similar 2020 to the one you're looking at for $42k plus tt&l. I'm in Lexington ky you can find a lower price pin the dealers against each other and make them fight for your business. Doing this online makes this even easier!

Depends on what your budget is. Personally I don’t find the value in new vehicles. If you buy something around 4-6 years old the depreciation curve will have flattened out. Toyotas do hold value well, but money is still money.

If money is no object, I’d buy new.

New, you should find that the dealer will move more on new than used. Plus that cement is Awesome!

I thought I’d never buy new until my wife’s 2017 4Runner. She knew exactly what she wanted and there wasn’t much available used. The ones we found were 4-5k less than what we paid 2-3 years older. Same with my new tundra. I saw my same truck with 20k miles listed for more than I paid for mine out the door with ttl

If you aren't hurting for a vehicle then time is on your side. I shopped for about 3 months before I found my Tundra. Originally was looking for something like a 2018 Crewmax with 30k miles (price range was around $35k). Eventually found a 2019 Crewmax with 3k miles for $34k.

It was about 6 hours away, but made a deal with the dealership to have them deliver it, and if the truck wasn't up to par, they would ship it back free of charge.

My opinion...it's a Toyota. 28k miles is nothing but $10k is. Personally, I would get the used one and spend the upgrade on the '18+ headlights and save the rest. That is way too low of a mileage for me to have a concern with it personally and the new features aren't enough for me to want to spend $10,000.

When you finance things $10,000 doesn't seem like much because of the monthly payment adjustments.

However, I found when you start paying cash for stuff that $10,000 suddenly seems like a lot more money for very little.

Again thank you all for the comments. I currently drive a 2009 MDX and was set on the 2020 because the older Tundras didn’t feel like much of an upgrade, from a features perspective. My wife has a new Odyssey and I enjoy the keyless entry and push button start. It’s nice with 2 young boys and seeming something always in your hands.

My plan is the pursue a new one and see what I can get them down too. $42k seems crazy but I guess you never know if you don’t ask. I don’t love the 2016 I showed you all because I want black leather. After having lighter interiors I want a darker one this go round. I can afford a new one but 10k is a lot of money.

Answered your own question right there. Yes payments hurt, but are so much easier to make when you love your truck, not just like it. My first Toyota was my 2017 DC Tundra, still smile every time I drive.

Then get the new one. A family member used to tell me, “if the man upstairs wanted you to hold onto money, he would’ve put handle bars on it.”

I have a 2015 that looks exactly like the 2016, except I have black leather. As mentioned above, you will want the LED head lights. I have changed all my lights to LED, interior and exterior. I freaking love the truck. I got mine certified pre-owned, and they gave me a new car rate. I bank with USAA and very seldom does anyone beat USAA financing, but since it was a new car rate, it was better than USAA. Get what you want. If I totaled my truck or someone stole my truck today, I would go buy the exact same truck I have. You have to buy what you want, and can afford. A new car will depreciate so quickly.

I would say used just beat them down some around 31k. The limited is already taking the depreciation bath. If you are not a excessive driver you will catch up it’s the depreciation scale in about a year. New unless your the drive it in to the ground type your going to take a bath.
