I have a 16 with the 7 inch BDS lift. I noticed I have perfect tire wear so I’m not experiencing the bump steering BUT I do have this chirping or skipping of the tires at full lock left and right turns. Anyone have a solution to this or experienced this.

    Thanks

I believe 99.9% of our lifted trucks do this. when they are lifted the ackermann angle changes

Yeah but I’ve heard it’s an issue with BDS so I wanna know if anyone else has this problem or did. Or if a readylift tundra has it as well.

    Anyone?

I think it contributed to body roll. Like the tire is leaning in amd the sidewall of the tire is grabbing the road. What kind of tires you have?

I think Ackerman is only affected if you replaced spindles and the BDS spindles don’t have the same position of the tie rod. I doubt this is the case, since BDS generally know their stuff, but if it is Ackerman, then the only way to fix it is to go back to stock spindles.

I think what you’re experiencing is an issue with scrub radius. What offset wheels are you running? Offset has a large effect on scrub that most overlook to fit bigger/wider tires, but has a large effect on turning radius and effect of said turn.

So is everyone talking about when you turn slowly almost full lock , it feels like your tire just skipped or slid from under something??

That happens to me every once in a while. Always wondered what it was but don’t care anymore. I still don’t know what it is. My offset is -25 tho so that’s a lot I guess . 7 inch BDS Lift as well

This is very much scrub radius. Mcpherson struts vehicles tend to be slightly negative scrub, meaning the centerline of the wheel is on the inside of where the SAI meets Scrub vertical line on the road. By going with negative offset wheels, this pushes the centerline of the wheel outward, which puts you into a positive scrub. This then cause the wheel not to spin in its center line, so it kind of pushes while rotating since it’s centerline arc has now changed. If that makes sense...

It is the ackerman angle with the BDS spindles, tie rod is moved.

I have same lift and negative offset wheels and mine does it. On 2 different sets of tires 35s and 37s. Perfectly aligned too, it’s normal

Yeah and it’s only at full lock on something smooth like concrete or real smooth asphalt. It makes people get the hell out of the way quicker too so I like it lol

I have 7" BDS, too. I don't hear tires slipping at full lock, but I do hear a noise. Once in a blue moon - it doesn't happen often at all - at full lock, it sounds like someone is under my front end and whacks something with a hammer. Real loud metal thud sound. Is this maybe the same thing?

Good to know. I would have assumed they would have tried to keep the same Ackerman since they cast their own spindles.

Is there a solution to this? I have the same problem on the Procomp stage 2 6inch lift. My wheels are Fuel Trophy D552 20x9 Offset 1 BS 5in. Do I need different tie rod ends like coachbuilder with heim joints? TIA!

Glad i read this. Mines has been doing this since i lifted it. Usually hear it in parking lots, especially when my tires go over the painted lines. Im running -76 offset so what can i say lol.
