What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

The tweeters have their own harness and it's connected.

 

I know this is a third gen but I never post over there so Ill post it here.

Its a third gen tundra with a grill that says subaru. Is this common?

 

Considering running boards due to ever increasing hip, and back problems.

Do you think that might help ease my pain?

If so, black tubular to match deer guard?
Thoughts?

 

Who knows. Some of those third gen guys are a little special.

My mother has mentioned that heated seats help her back a hip quite a bit. Might be worth a try.

 

Try some CBD Lotion with Menthol on your hip. Stuff works pretty good. I’ve got an old hand modeling injury between my shoulder blades from only being able to turn right. Pain goes away or diminishes greatly, as soon as its applied!

I was calling BS on this stuff until I tried it. You only need a dab because it goes a long way. A tube costs around $35. Most grocery stores carry some form of it now or you can order online.

 

My grandmother swears by that stuff. I always forget about it. Give me a few years and I'll probably need it daily and then i won't forget.

 

I'll look into it. Definitely worth a shot, and less expensive than running boards.

 

I swear by CBD lotion as well, works well on the RA in my wrists.

Off topic but I want to replace all my fluids but have heard bad things about touching old tranny fluid. I'm not sure it has ever been done in 116k, would a simple drain and fill be okay? I want to go synthetic but if I don't know what's in there currently and I'm guessing it's not smart to mix 4qt syn with potentially 8qt non syn.

 

I'm going to suggest your primary focus for running boards be grip. Something that doesn't ever get slippery - slip is sure shot way to h*ll for hip/back. I had some on my F250 with a plastic tread - slippery as heck in the cold. I know some out there have rubber no-slip surface stripes on them.

Agree on the CBD lotion. Also try celery seed, it helps make the pain fade into the background. It's still there if you think about it, but generally it's not obvious so you don't think about it.

 

It would seem that the problems arise when people hook up the power flush machines. Simple drain & fill should be fine. Measure what comes out to know what to put in - it won't be what you expect.
Good time to change the filter & gasket....

I suspect the reason there are so many stories of tranny going bad after touching old fluid is because people think to change the fluid when they notice first signs of tranny misbehavior. So they do it when the trans is already going bad.
Go for it. If you don't know what's in there - use what the manual says to use.

 

@Professional Hand Model When you switched to Mobile 1 full synth for engine oil you had snot build up in the cap correct? Did this go away after more oil changes? Online shows one possible reason being short driving intervals and not allowing the engine to get to operating temp which makes sense given my trips over the last week or so. Another option is a blown head gasket, but the cheese wasn't there before the switch. Made the switch 330 miles ago and planned on changing again at 1500.

 

Correct in that the snot build up came after the oil change. It also happened in the winter both times. First time I wiped it clean and it never returned. Second time was last week and she hasn’t been driven much to check if its come back after wiping. I’ll report back on this in a few weeks.

Like you say, I think its short trips. I also think its fresh oil mojo action.

 

I used transparent grip tape on my wife's steps and it's a fairly inexpensive fix.

Since the 1/2 backer rod didn't fit, and no one at home depot or lowes knew what I was talking about I cut a piece of mine in half down the middle. I installed it, and it kinda fit snugly in some places. Kinda didn't. I guess I'll order the 1/4 inch backer rod because both stores I went to didn't have it in the locations the app said. Very frustrating. Drove an hour out of my way lol

I got it after I switched to a blend, And frequent short trips in the cold. Now that it’s getting into hiking season and I’ve been driving the truck for multiple hours on the weekend the cap has cleaned right up.

Not getting the truck back until Monday from the suspension/uca install so since I couldn't use it I had to spend money on it...

 

Can this be converted to Torque app? I have one but I’m not sure if it’s the pan temp or torque converter temp.

 

Got my Ebay special iBoards mounted up, I like ‘em a lot. Fit what I was looking for to a “T”. I mounted them as far in (closer to the truck) as possible so as to hide the bracket as best as I could. It could be a .5” or so further out (away from the truck) and probably provide more step when getting in or out, but it’s still plenty the way I have them. They can also slide further to the rear of the truck and provide a step for bed access, but to me it looked badly proportioned. The way I have it, I have some step space to clean the windshield and have a little in the rear to get into the bed.

Install was simple, almost a little too simple, but they’re actually solid. I’m 6’1 225 and they don’t seem flimsy. Most “difficult” part was the bolt for the rear bracket, it’s, in my opinion, 1/4” too short and there’s no reason they couldn’t provide a longer bolt, it’s not seen and there’s plenty of room. The short bolt makes it a beating to get the washers and nut on while holding a thick, heavy-ish bracket above your melon.

I also didn’t mount the center bracket, I think they’re a little too big as it is, so I didn’t want another bracket hanging down. Even without it, it feels solid.

All-in-all, for $160 or so with the coupon Ebay was running, I’m really happy with the quality and look. We’ll see how they hold up, they’ve already stopped most of the rocks that used to fling up.

Which, on another note, all the paint correction work I put in up front is still paying off. Drove on dirt roads all day every day for the past week and she still shines pretty good.

I don’t know if it was all the talk of cbd lotion or what, but I had a strange moment of clarity. I’ve been dead set on having a delrin slide block mounted on the bumper for the swing arm to rest on, but when the tailgate is down there isn’t much more than 1/2” between the two.......mount one upside down on the bottom of the swing out!!!!!!! Then it doesn’t matter how thick it is, because it will never be in the way when the gate is down! 5gals of water weighs a lot, holy moly! I’m doing to weld a thinner 2” sq tube across the two uprights; possibly a fold down camp/stove table will go inbetween, but I will also secure the handles of the Gerald cans to that horizontal sq tube. Cuts down on weight for the can holders, and gives me room for more activities.

 

This photo reminds me - the sidewalls on the 1st gen bed are too low. They really need to be rear window tall.

Per weight: Water is about 8lbs per gallon for future reference.

I estimated 50# per water can, after I did my water/weight ratio rain dance calculation.

 

My brother and I got a few items taken care of today.

Installed the air pump bypass kit module and block-off plates.

Installed my headunit's Bluetooth microphone up top of driver side a pillar trim piece and ran wire behind instrument panel to headunit.

Grounded the TPMS wire and the warning light turned off finally.

Adjusted my parking brake a little bit.

Inspected my tie rods and steering bushings. All in good order. I did have to tighten the upper but on the sway bar end links a bit but otherwise looked good.

 

Cap fixes it.
Dunno, every time I have to haul something the sidewalls cause me concern. Guess I just haul tall stuff.

Access Cab Tundra is even shorter than DC Tundra by 2” iirc.

I liked my side boxes due to adding about 8” in height, but I enjoy it without them for a different look. They did add some extra rigidity back there the way that I had them mounted.

 

So far no major pops or creaks during normal driving. Over crummier, and gravel roads with small potholes the dash creaks a little. I'm thinking it's due to my impromptu 1/2" to 1/4" trim job. Lol.

Also used this road test to verify I had my tool box secured for monday nights trip into work. All good there. I even did the dad thing on the last turn of the ratchet strap i made sure to say "That's not going anywhere." And pulled on the strap.

 

For those that have installed a backup camera in the tailgate handle, this is really the only place it will fit right?
