What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

If you have time when finished, would you mind taking a pic after your Center Cluster Panel is back in place. I have had the DMX906S on my short list for awhile but not ready to pull trigger. Might have to take a closer look at your DMX706S since I don't see but 2 differences at Crutchfield....HD Radio and USB inputs, also your model is $200 cheaper at Crutchfield....decisions, decisions !

 

What led you to purchase these particular speakers (the Hertz brand)?

 

They’re a higher end speaker brand. This they’re entry series, I’d say they’re on the higher end of “budget” speakers. The parent company to hertz is audison. I’ve ran audisons before and they’re amazing

 

The center cone of the speaker looks different than some of the other new speakers I’ve seen. Most have the same look as the originals with the little build out. How much are these and would they work on my original stereo (2002)?

 

I must be dense...or not enough coffee yet. I'm not seeing where this connector is?

 

Even tho mine is strictly the tray but same size, easy peasy trim tool should work

 

yeah it just pops out easily. Installed an unltragauge there in my last tundra and it fit nicely.

 

Will do. Also another plus for the 706s is the chassis depth is half as deep compared to the 906s which means easier install with the rats nest of wires in the back.

 

They sound good with my 19 radio. They likely would sound good with yours as well. But they also may not get enough power from the 02 radio

 

Took her out on a nice long test drive today on multiple types of roads including some sand driving.

Still getting used to the new bushings, but I’d say overall they are smoother than the old bushings. The old bushings were more road sensitive and had a quicker/direct response feel. These are smoother and turn fast but with less jerk/jive.

I think I liked the older bushings better for their sportiness. These new ones may be better for off road and city combo driving. Jury is still out and I’ll live with them for a while. May change back to stiffer ones, but so much work!

You're the 2nd person I've seen with the passenger airbag off. Is this because of children?

Update: I got my headunit wired up with backup camera and amps. I used the mounting ears off the factory headunit since they are a nice metal instead of cheap plastic like most dash install kits but because the factory unit has a wider faceplate, I have a 1/2 inch wide gap on the sides of the Kenwood double din. No biggie I'll order a faceplate dash install kit to cover the holes.

I had already installed a mini amp behind the single Din kenwood that I had before which powers my door speakers.

I repurposed my brothers NVX MPVA1 mini amp and used it for powering up a 12 Rockford fosgate 12 in a wedge truck box that will just sit behind the passenger seat. I hardly have anyone in the backseat anyway.

I mounted my backup camera right above the license plate. The Cam is powered off the headunit switched 12volt so I can use it at anytime. I connected the headunit reverse trigger to the reverse circuit at the bottom left kick panel where I found the Red/Black with silver spots reverse wire. Camera switches successfully when I put the truck in reverse. The image quality is OK but the viewing angle isn't very wide. I'm not able to see the trailer hitch but I hardly ever tow anyway so it should be fine.

I'll be ordering a dash install kit to hide the holes on the sides of the headunit and the USB port button replacement to install my USB port in the front cubby of the console and then I can call it a day.

 

I started stripping the headlight chrome on my lunch break yesterday. The projector bezels were easy, the headlight reflectors weren't too bad, and one of the trim parts inside the headlight wouldn't strip at all. If it survived oven cleaner for an hour then I think it's safe to paint.
I have a cool idea for the projector that I should be showing in about a week. Should add an extra bit of pizaz and character. Too much garage work right now to get much else done.

 

Any tips on routing the video cable? Are there any grommets in the floor or door sills I can use? I didn't get a chance to look for myself today as I waited for FedEx and got started on the temp install before I fell asleep.



There's a grommet under the drivers seat

 

There was a nice big grommet between the outer front and rear driver seat bolts where there is already a big bundle of wires running beneath the truck. Worked out great.

Thanks to Fred for the motivation and the know how I got my wheels repainted today. Took all day prepping and waiting between coats and I think they turned out pretty well, definitely much better than before.

 

Also what do you guys think, keep the canopy on, or keep it off? I’m kinda partial to it off now that I found out how heavy the bastard is.

If you don't actually use it for anything might as well leave it off. I think mine only weighs around 150lbs though.

 

I like mine simply for the utility of having the bed covered when I need it.

I plan on keeping mine on. I can remove it easily enough with a lift on the ceiling once I get a roof rack on it.

 

Not much accomplished today. Mostly bedding a rifle, putting ads out on Armslist and prepping optics for sale. Did find time to install the Gentex GNK20 mirror. Not sure there is a much easier install if you already have a power mirror--uses the same connector, just gets two wires added for the temp probe. Titan, one of the nine, decided he needed to supervise.

 

Bedding a rifle and installing a mirror? Sounds like a good Saturday to me!

 

I didn't know some models came with power mirror. Hell my 06 limited didn't haha I'd love one of those.
