When I traded my taco for the FJ in 2011 I was surprised how little I actually missed the bed. “Bed things” like surfboards and fishing gear fit in the back of the fj. Lumber was easily tied down on the roof rack. I had a little 8’ box trailer for when I really needed a bed. I ended up selling it bc it never got used. I called my brother when I needed a truck. He called to take the fj when he was going off-road lol

I just traded my 14 fj with 50k miles and some mods for the tundra...loved it but it can’t compete with the v8 especially with bumper, sliders etc... and stock gearing.

My guess is the price of the last production year of a trail teams edition with that low mileage is going to start with a 4.

FJ is definitely on my buy list. I have a co worker that has one approaching 300k, only minor issues the entire time.

    I own an 07 FJ and a 15 Tundra.
Absolutely love them both. Our FJ is a freaking beast on the trails. Lots of hacks and mods available for them and a huge aftermarket of parts.

    Things to look for:
Very early 07 FJ had rear diff weakness issues.

All FJs will get inner fender apron tears. Look just forward of the hood hinges for bulges/tears or repairs. Mine are torn all the way through, top to bottom.

Check the motor mounts, especially the passenger side. There was a bunch that tore that mount.

Oh yeah, if you have kids the FJ backseat sucks to get them in and out of in a parking lot, especially if the kid is in a car seat.

Some people complain about them being a giant blind spot, obviously no one taught them how to use their mirrors as I have never had an issue with mine and it’s giant “blind spot”.

That’s why we now have a 4Runner. Back seat sucks. 4 runner has useability. Same off-road ability.

I had a 07 Fj which I traded in for my tundra. It was extremely hard to trade it in but I really wanted a truck and my fj had terrible rust issues. A hour job would easily turn into half a day. The weekend project of putting a 3 inch lift lasted over a week .
With that said I love my tundra and overall enjoy driving it more but still miss the fj. I got more put of my fj then I had in it and honestly plan on buying another one a few years down the road.

I never had any issues with mine that weren't my fault. I would check for corrosion where the roof rack meets the roof, I've seen one with the tiniest bit of surface rust there before, but that was probably just an anomaly.

That is caused by leaking roof rack mount seals. Very common on the FJ. Mine leaked at that spot until I re sealed it.

An FJ in not a pickup truck. If you are looking for serious off road capability, then the FJ is awesome. It is also fun for local driving and commuting. For highway driving the longer wheelbase of the Tundra makes it more comfortable and easier to drive at highway speeds.

I have both. I bought my fj the week they came out. Didn’t have it in me to get rid of it. Still love that rig. I use the tundra as my daily driver and the fj for work and woods.

Agreed! i traded my FJ for my Tundra because i couldnt get by without a truck. It was a 2007 TRD, black with the black top. Favorite vehicle ever. I look all the time at them, thinking i might get another. If i did, it would be this one. I really like the trail team editions, but this color... Dream FJ.

I had a 2008 FJ that I loved but needed a bed when I bought my fixer-upper of a house. I do regret trading it in rather than selling via private sale. I could have got a lot more for it through a private sale.

I never had any problems with it and it was very fun to drive. I think there are many more mods available for the FJ, even though the Tundra has been around longer.

there were only a couple ‘annoyances’ I had with the FJ:

Blind Spots: It’s very difficult to see back and rear side windows. I was always scare I was going to hit someone while backing out of a parking space at the grocery store or mall. A backup camera is a must.

Performance in snow and rain: Not the best, to be honest. I think it’s because the wheel base is so short. Although, I can’t remember what tires I had. That may have contributed to the ‘slippery’ feeling while driving in those conditions.
