Front seat replacement

I have an 05 DC tan cloth interior. The bottom of the driver’s seat is worn, ripped, and sagging. Anyone know where to get a replacement besides a junkyard? Can I just replace the bottom piece?
I also thought of taking this opportunity to replace both front seats with something nicer but I’d want as direct fitment as I can.

 

have you considered an auto upholstery shop? In my experience they are usually less expensive then you might imagine.

 

I haven’t since I imagine the entire bottom of the seat would essentially need to be rebuilt. Is that something some shops do? I have 0 experience with upholstery shops

 

Update on this, I bought a seat from a junkyard in good shape for $120. However the seat is for a base model. It’ll fit, but I’d like to retain the tilt feature, rear pouch, and armrest which the new one doesn’t have. Going to give a shot at replacing just the bottom piece but it’s a lot more involved than I anticipated.
I have the weight sensor which effects the airbag. The seat has been apparently sagging for years so airbag isn’t working for the drivers side and the light burnt out.
On top of that I have no idea what I’m doing. Going to try and get some help from a friend of mine who was a Toyota tech. I will keep this update as I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Worst case if I can’t swap over, I’ll put in the base model seat.

 

the seat bottom should come out with a few hog rings and some stretched fabric. usually can get the cover and foam off as one.

 

I need the wire frame below it as well as it is bent.

 

Oh. That’s a whole seat frame then. I don’t believe you can use the motors or anything on a standard frame

 

It doesn’t have any motors or anything, just the sensor for the seat belt and weight sensor. My seat’s tilt feature (I’m sure that’s not the right word for it) is just a manual lever to move the subframe (also not the right word) up and down.
My weight sensor is already not working on my old seat since it’s been sagging for so many years. I’m looking at it now and have no clue how to pull it apart without the springs on the seats shooting off.

 

Hmm I haven’t had these seats apart but some of the Toyota’s you can get the seat sensors off by laying it on its side. I believe there’s 2 nuts holding it on.

Hey, DanBye-- how hard was it? I want to do the opposite, plus the center console-- was the airbag sensor a pain?

 

Not bad at all, just 12mm bolts all around. Airbag sensor was a simple plug.

 

Thanks, DanBye-- I've learned now from doing it that although the bolts line up, the sensors are totally different between different years. I ended up putting it all back so I could get it inspected (just purchased the 06). Now I'm looking for a set of 06 buckets and console. I'm selling my 2000 since I've got the newer model. 2006 has 3 sensors (separate wires in the harness) and the 2000 has just the one so a much simpler system. Live and learn, I guess.

 

ColumbiaGorge-- I know what you mean about the better seats-- that's what I have in my 2000. I want the same features for my 2006. I'm also looking for a seat of grey cloth seats (bucket) in decent condition (I believe 2005-2006 have the same airbag harnesses and sensors but would appreciate if someone knows that for sure). Turns out the frame farthest to the drivers side is a different size on the 06 vs 05. It’s a few inches shorter. Other side it the same though. I learned this after halfway taking the “new” seat apart. I ended up fixing my old seat by re-adjusting the padding and stuff below. Now I have a $100 seat sitting in my carport I wasted money on. Live and learn I guess.

 

ColumbiaGorge-- I thought that was the case when I put in my 2000 seat, but once I slid the seat forward, the bolt holes lined up. Happened in both vehicles (I swapped them from a 2000 to a 2006 but then put them back because of the airbag sensors).

 

As far as the airbag sensor quandary, I learned a lot this week. Since the harnesses between the 2000 and 2006 didn't match, and it was clear that the 2006 had more sensors and wires (a weight sensor, track sensor, in addition to the seat belt sensor), I figured I had to delve a little deeper. Massachusetts has very strict inspection rules, and I want to be able to sell my 2000 and feel okay about it, and also don't want someone to die in my 2006 because I screwed up. I called my local Toyota parts guy, and asked if the sensors in the dash were the same for the different years, and also since I wanted to swap out bench for bucket, different seats. He said only way to tell would be to have the vin numbers of the different vehicles to compare parts numbers. I got a junkyard to give me the vin of a 2006 with bucket seats, and I gave the parts guy the vin of my 2006 with bench seats. Both modules in the dash (grill sensor and clockspring, I think they're called) were different even though the one in the bench seat itself was the same as the one in the passenger bucket seat. It makes sense, considering 2 people can ride in the bench, and it's based on weight. So I've given up putting buckets in my 2006 and will live with the bench seats. Unless a get a great deal on replacing the sensors in the dash!

 

I was hoping that was that case but I measured them to compare and it is a few inches smaller. Stupid minimal changes!

 

kjlonghill, could you take a picture of the connectors on the bottom of those power leather seats from the 2000? I've been trying to figure out if i can swap my manual seats for power ones, but i can't seem to find what the connector on the power ones looks like anywhere. My seat only has a 4 pin plug.
