Wheeler's Superbumps highly recommend

New Wheeler super bump installed Happy with the results.

 

Looks like the Timberen. I put those on mine after 6112s at 1.9" setting just to be safe.

Wheelers states they compress to OE as long as you didn't install a shim, which doesn't look like you did .

That's not really what the superbumps are aimed for... That's what a bump does in general.

The superbumps allow the bump zone to be larger, being that they are significantly larger. During compression to hit the bump sooner, the compression becomes more progressive. The factory bump, once your in - your in.

 

So question, with aftermarket shocks then is this a requirement to have these installed to avoid blowing a shock? or even without aftermarket shocks, is it still a necessity? I feel like it would shorten the shocks window to dampen the energy from the hit, but I guess I understand it is a fail-safe if there is too much force? @14burrito

 

Answer is really no, you don't need to run these with an aftermarket shock. You don't need to run these with a stock shock.

Now, can you and will it hurt?
Yes you can, no it will not hurt.

Some coilovers need an extended bump.
5100s for sure come with a bump shim due to coil block height. 6112 I think come with a shim, not 100%. As I just found out, Icon requires a shim if you preload their coilovers past 1.5" of threads showing - again, this would be due to coil block height.

The shim/spacer Bilstein provides (and Icon would otherwise require) extends the bump stop down "X" amount. Will the superbump help this situation? No, the superbumps compress to the same as OE. Wheelers do sell superbump shims to remedy this issue.

Would these be a good opinion for someone who tows a trailer with alot of tongue weight but does not want to run airbags?

 

The timbrens might be a better option or even the sumo springs. Those are rated stiffer, I think the wheelers might be the lightest rated out of the available options.

 

Their website says these are installed in a different location and the stock bump stops are left in place, is this correct? For the front. It seems most suggest this is a replacement.

I watched the install video and see that in some applications you leave the stock and add these, in others they’re a direct replacement.

 

What's the consensus on these vs Durobumps?

I bought duro bumps. Not sure it was that different or worth it. I noticed the difference at first because I was trying but now it just feels normal again.

 

I just installed a front spacer, 3", I assume this wouldn't help as they compress to OEM specs. Just wondering if anyone else used them or others in a spacer application.

 

No, I had the same line of thinking you had on my 5th gen 4Runner. It did however soften the bottoming out when towing but ultimately I added airbags. Together they made for an excellent combination. When unloaded and with no air in the bags the Superbumps made for an much better ride on the cratered city streets I use.
