Yep POS's. They make a good TV but never again on their appliances. I got a new heat gun that makes thawing my Samsung ice maker every :censored: week go a little faster.

I have a heat gun but it damn near melts the plastic on the low setting. I just commandeer The Woman's hairdryer. It does the job pretty well. The blowing air combined with the heat is ideal.

I replaced a piece based on internet advice. Apparently this thingy warms up and prevents the drain hole from freezing up. Samsung however, let an idiot design it and they made it too short. It was recommended to replace it with a longer one. We'll see what happens. Either it'll work, fail or burn the house down.

The piece on the left is Samsung's. The other one is mine.

You should only need to buy 1 fridge every 20 years in my opinion...

Is your Samsung a french door design?

Mine had one fix under warranty. I've had to fix it twice after for water filter not working. Thaw it once a week or do without ice. And the hair dryer warped the plastic so at the point if it melts it melts. I'd like to put of getting another until I feel like I got some value out this expensive piece of crap.

I've moved quite a bit in the last handful of years and bought a new one with each house...
the first one I had about 8 years ago was, and I loved that thing! I went side by side on the last two to save on cost.

The average shelf life now a days is 5 to 7 years. The days of things lasting 20 years are long gone.

Yep. Maybe we can convince Toyota to build a few fridges. I mean, if they're not updating the Tundra they may as well put those engineers to use.

My sister has the same model as our and has the same problems. My brother in law and I get together and compare notes of possible fixes and neither of us have figured out why they freeze up. I siliconed around every possible edge that wouldn't lock the tray in. He added cardboard to interior next to ice maker. Guess we are both cheap.

Yep. Their french doors designs are the worst. Mine isn't the ice maker freezing up though, it's the entire cooling fan area.

This vid outlines my problem. His first pinned comment offers a solution. I have a thread on here in the Home Improvement section where someone suggested the fix that I used.
