Has anyone had any luck shipping a grille assembly? I am trying to purchase a grille from the marketplace, but the seller keeps running into dead-ends. Here’s what’s been quoted so far by DHL-$600 freight and no guarantee for not being damaged in shipping.
I believe UPS was in the same boat....
Also, he’s been told that they (shipping company) does not like to ship person-to-person only business-to-business.
Any help would be appreciated. By the way also looking to purchase the black door handles for a crewmax, and some 2018 + chrome led headlights.

Well, that's BS. All you need to do is package it, do your stuff online with ups or fedex. Then drop it off to a drop off location. They charge more going to residential, but not that much more than a few $. FedEx gives you an estimated payment by weight and package size from zip code to zip code. I think he doesn't want to bother with it, sometimes it might not be worth the extra $$$ when you can get new on ebay and such cheaper.

If you use UPS or Fedex they charge you the Dim Weight vs the weight of just the box, meaning you will be charged for how big it is. Also, FedEx will charge a $4.00 residential delivery charge, not sure about UPS. I always just have everything delivered to my work. You can pay for insurance in case it gets lost or damaged, I believe it's .50 cents for everything above $100.00. The only problem w/this is, packaging is key! Very often people do not truly take the measures to package items properly for shipping, and these boxes go through a heck of a journey before they ever even get on the truck.

I can't guarantee the insurance would work out for you if something happened, but you could try:

    bikeflights.com

I have shipped boxes twice the size and weight across the country (KY to OR) for $60.

    Here is an example:

    I selected a "Bike Box", entered deminsions 48"L x 8"W x 24"H, 15 pounds

I did Seattle to Huntsville because Washington seemed like the furthest away in the US, but you can do actual cities for a more realistic quote

@Roman ships them ALL the time. UPS will do it. Heck, the seller could probably go down to the dealership and see if they can acquire an actual box from a genuine grille. Might be told no, but it's worth a shot.

I ship them out a LOT. They are expensive to ship, but not $600 expensive. Unless you're in China and want it next day air or something crazy.

UPS/FedEx do charge dimensional weight, but also keep in mind that if one of the dimensions of the box is over 60", which the Tundra grille boxes are at 61x17x11, they are considered oversize. There is a fee for oversize packages in addition to the dimensional weight, plus insurance to cover the contents. And IF it is not wrapped up with plenty of packaging materials and it becomes damaged, they will deny the claim.

I shipped one out in the box my new grill came in via UPS and it was about $130 shipping from Cali to South Carolina. Also, you can ship big items via Greyhound.

Seller remeasured and weighed. Final number was around $250 for grille assembly and hood bulge. Grill assembly shipped in a “guitar box” and hood bulge in its own separate box.
    Thanks for all the feedback.

if anyone has black crewmax door handles or 2018+ chrome led headlights, I’m looking for those also!!

I ship a lot and work in the freight business. It’s going to be expensive and you will not get squat if they destroy it.

I bought a $650 grill for my old Tacoma. Individual took it to UPS store where THEY packaged it. He paid insurance and everything. They crushed the corner to where it was unusable. After a few months of arguing my claim was closed and I got a $127 check in the mail. Total BS

I bought a grille assembly and sold my old one. Are used the box it came in. Shipping was quite expensive. It’s been a while so I don’t remember how much. I want to say it was between 40 and $70. I used UPS. I think they just went off of the size of the box and possibly the week. It’s not very heavy luckily. Shipped it person to person

UPS also charges extra for residential deliveries. I think my grill and bulge from Tn to Tx about $60. Packing was pretty extensive. I stored my old one in same packing but ended up selling local.
