Holy Howling Power Steering

Last fall I purchased an 03 Tundra TRD for occasional use. One very cold morning I decided to take it out, and when pulling out of the drive quickly realized that there was no power assist in the power steering. To cut to the chase, it looked like there was a steel line with a hose over it held with a spring clamp that failed to hold things together. The power steering pump had emptied all of my fluid into the street.

The steel line was smooth with no flare or knurl at the end which made me wonder if it had been cut when the rack was installed. I replaced the hose with worm style clamp and refilled the power steering reservoir with Dextron. Now the power steering fluid is foamy, the pump howls like its cavitating and the power boost is only nominal when I turn the steering wheel. Of course the "new" rack seems wet with pink fluid both below the point where the column meets the rack and at both boots. I have let it sit for literally weeks, hoping that the foam bubbles would eventually go away and shut up the pump but neither seem to have happened. Any suggestions on where to start with this mess?

 

Replace with OEM or OEM reman new rack, new OEM pump, and new OEM hoses.
