What’s wrong with oe mount?

 

The minute you take your truck off road and start using it, especially if you have a more capable aftermarket suspension system which allows you to push your truck past it's OEM designed limits, the engine mounts begin to fail. The soft weak rubber begins to over-flex, crack apart, and de-laminate. As this occurs, the entire weight of the engine begins to bounce in all directions, slamming up and down and basically beating the motor mount frame perches like a 600lb slide hammer. It's at this point your perches begin to crack apart and the frame begins to tear. After that, the exhaust rips, the aluminum transmission housing cracks apart, and the engine block itself can crack and rip the mounts right out of the block itself. Best case scenario you just have a torn rubber puck or a bent cast iron bracket and a lot of engine flex. But the hidden benefit is more power to the tires because your drivetrain isnt being twisted from motor torque. It stays put and that torque is sent to the ground.

This customer had a bent bracket on one side and had to cut his mount apart to remove it due to rubber puck damage. His frame perches were also bent from the stock mount failing and the motor flex and excessive movement.

 

New engine mounts & installed. These work with long tube headers.

and @papasmurf beat the hell out of their trucks, and know how the OEM do not hold up to hard use.

 

13k miles and both my motor mounts are toast, so I’m giving these a try. But mine is from the frame slowly pushing in, resulting in frequent alignments, always going towards negative camber.

 

I've sold about 500 sets of these types of motor mounts since the mid 2000s and only had one customer say he was bothered by the extra vibration. It's very minimal, really only noticable at idle, if noticed at all. But bigger off road tires, aftermarket suspension, big stereos, exhaust, lift kits, etc all add different driving characteristics and harmonics/sounds to the truck anyway. This is an upgrade that's designed to be cheap insurance to avoid thousands of dollars of possible damage when your stock oem motor mounts give up. Alot of bad things happen when your drivetrain starts banging around underneath your cab and inside your engine bay.

As for exact horse power it would have to be dyno'd. But it's a noticable seat of the pants difference. It's simple physics though, energy that isnt lost thru the twisting and bouncing around of the drivetrain is now sent to the axles turning the tires.

I'm being told it's a 2 hour average install time if you can do your own brakes. This is from 5 different sources. Floor jack, block of wood, basic harbor freight socket/wrenches.

 

Do you have a link to more info? I’m not instragram savvy. Is this mount all metal on metal or is there some sort of poly bushing in there that’s blending in with all the black? It looks like there might be a two-piece, ES control arm-style poly bushing there. Thanks.

You should definitely have a group buy.

 

100% fabricated steel but yes with a polyurethane 1.75" bushing. This allows for a small amount of flex which is still required on a stock style truck frame.

 

$500 for the set.

 

You'll notice it...I have customers telling me they can chirp tires in a higher gear when they couldn't before. These 5.7 motors flex alot. I had a customer take a go-pro under hood video and there is like inches of movement as the motor torques.

That's some serious damage. The whole thru bolt/rubber section/metal housing just completely disintegrated

 

So would a daily driver, light tower and a truck that is used in hunting,farming loght off road and just plain general use have a need for this? Maybe not a total need but would the above warrant the expense.

Planning on having the truck a long time.

 

I've sold a few sets to some customers that pretty much outlined exactly what you just wrote. Strictly tow vehicles and they wanted a little more power to the ground...but...they also ran a little bigger tire and like to hit some trails sometimes and might bounce the truck around a little more than normal. Is it likely in this scenario that your OEM mounts would fail...probably not. At least not quickly. I can tell you though that I've seen a underhood go-pro video of a 5.7 motor on the street and between shifts and acceleration that motor is literally all over the place. And that's on flat pavement.

I'm gonna try and test fit these this weekend. My mounts looked like @Vizsla last year haha
